Hey, if they're not your favorite enemies, I'm sorry, but you're probably at least as mentally ill as they are :D
Anyway, here are some 3D Retros you'll have the pleasure of blowing up during the early missions of Standoff:

As always, feedback would be greatly appreciated, specially considering I've used a few new texturing techniques on this one.

Maybe you need to stick some... er... missiles on those ship bellies... :)
 
Personally, I feel the grey lines/patchy coloring are a bit heavy or overstated.

Btw. didn't the Retros always fly shiny white ships?

Also, I know it's picky but I would have thought that the eye decal would be painted on last, and so would be over the top of everything else (e.g. the grey lines).

Sorry if that sounds overly critical, but you DID ask for feedback.
 
SWC is Super Wing Commander a version of WC1 for Mac and 3DO that was basically WC1 and the Secret Missions only completely redesigned from the ships to the characters.
 
the ships and the characters have the same names, but look absolutely nothing like they do in regular WC1. Paladin had an eyepatch for cryin out loud! On the CIC mainpage under the section articles the last article is SWC ships. Check it out and see what all the ships looked like.
 
There's also another set of missions dubbed "Secret Missions 1.5" only available with SWC. LOAF typed up the dialogue which can also be found in the articles.

And, yeah, another cool ship from Eder. But I do agree with Azrael regarding all the lines on the armour. What was so different with the texturing techniques this time?
 
The plating lines are thinner, have a bright and a dark half to give some impression of depth (that's why the bright plating lines are on top of the eye), there are some different colored squares to give impression of repaired armor plating, and I used a gray airbrush instead of a black one, so the dust looks lighter and more even (take the Raptor for example, some areas are too shiny while others are too dark).

But I agree with the shiny white ships part, I had totally forgotten about that... So I'll go back to the drawing board and change this, and I'll have to change the repair plating color too. (orange won't fit too well with white... but I like the idea of using contrasting colors for this type of shading, it reminds me of the impressionists :))

I can assure you that eyepatches aren't that permanent.

Eder, if someday in the near future I find my self blowing those Retros in my computer, you will be my hero.
 
Thanks a bunch LOAF! I'll just change the eye logo and make the tip of the nose red... I think that'll make it look nice enough.

By the way, LOAF... Now that I'm moving on to the Kilrathi ships, I could use a few more of those renders... namely, the Ralatha, Fralthra, Dorkathi, and Drakhri. Don't need to render them all at once, though, just get me one, and when I'm done with it, you can get me the next one or something.

If it isn't too much trouble, of course :)
