Dubav-class Light Carrier (lost WC art)

Destroyer of assclowns
Its Christmas eve, I have places to go and drinks to drink so I will make this fast. This thread is being started to publically unveil the latest work of the WC Saga. This one is a canon ship that was never seen in the games, but unlike the Jutland-class that was an artist's interpretation, we have original artwork of it.

This next ship on the line is the Kilrathi Dubav-class light carrier, a warship that was cut from Wing Commander 3. I was able to find it in the “Making of WC3” CD-ROM that Origin released with its first official WC3 guide. I was also able to prove this carrier’s existence through Victory Streak and False Colors. For the time being, we named this carrier class the “Dubav” as a tribute to the False Colors novels, in which the light escort carrier Dubav was Lord Ragark’s flagship. We intend for this ship made to be that warship.

Armament is six Laser Turrets and a torpedo launcher. As this is a carrier, its fighter complement is 40 combat spacecraft (five 8-ship combat squadrons) and a support squadron of 8 Naktarg shuttles. Length is still being debated but we’re guessing to be around 600-ish meters.

This above picture is the exact picture as seen from the Making of WC3 CD-ROM. The below pictures are the new model themselves.

Credits are as follows: concept art and blueprints by Origin Systems, modeling by Lars (it’s a long story), and textures by Starman.

whats the polycount relative to other WC ships? It looks like its a bit more complex than usual...

oh, and even if it is redundant... you guys rock. Thanks.

It's polycount is about 1200 for the first LOD (including turrets), without
debris yet.

It's more or less equal to the other models, i. e. our Fralthi II is around 1500 Polygons
in the first LOD.

Even equal in polycount to the other models, non of them gave us so much trouble then this one, right Starman ?

It was quite some hard work to build this one, never had so much problems with any other model...well I am more then happy that you like it...and Starman did an excelent work in texturing and sorting out some last troublemakers.
Beside that here is an updated pic of the textures

Wow, that looks amazing! I much prefer that design to the Bhanktara-Class carrier from WC3... ugh that thing is a flying brick.

Sayyyy... would I be able to get a hold of a higher res version of that concept art? :) I'd like to model the light carrier too for my WC animation--Raiders. Would that be possible? :D

You can say that again. Allthough I really like the design of that ship , it definitly
gave me a hard time. I had to rebuild it yesterday the whole day, cause I wasn't
able to make LOD's due to some geometry-errors.

Those errors where ( created by truespace, what else ?) due to the side-windows
I created, but I don't wanted to spoil them. But after converting to several other
model-formats, and a complete retexturing, things looks pretty good today.

Guess I can have it online until weekend. ( I already tested it ingame, looks great, and
the hangar fits for the bigger fighters too).

unfortunately you'll have to stick with the current picture and you can use wcsaga model for reference

It's good to see some of the forgot WC ships being used. As there were a lot that we heard about but were never really able to see. Again excellet work gentlemen

Thanks, it's always good to see people who appreciate what we're doing.

I can't wait to see what other ships you guys are cooking up for this MOD. Cuz right now I"m pretty damn impressed. Keep the screenshots coming.

You mean how the textures are very repetitive? :) Eder explained it all to me--the limitations of the engine basically I remember. No worries. I think the textures are fine for a game.
