Changing sectors ingame?

Hi Eddie,

I've been following flight commander's progress for some time, and firstly I'd like to congratulate you on doing such an amazing job!

I'm considering a project at the moment (Still a vague idea in my head I'm building on) - And I was wondering if your engine had a certain feature that might make it more possible - The idea is that of jump - missions, like how it was done in wc2 where you'd jump into a new system, but when you do so - it changes the background sector graphics as well.

I know in one of the later games, the get around to this was to end one mission at the jump point with a small video transition, then it loaded the next mission in another sector.

Is anything like this possible at the moment?

Eisen: lucky for you, the engine comes with an example cutscene demonstrating exactly this. In the campaign menu, just choose the "cutscene" option, and you'll see this. To see how to do it yourself, look at cutsceneexample.lua. There should be nothing stopping you from adding mission content before and after the in-game cutscene.
 
Hey...I am getting an idea, how about we have a contest - FC mission contest with a theme (of course it would be a single mission not a campaign)....hmmm.... :)

It could be a simulator mission competition. Vanilla FC needs more sim missions. :D
 
Well, I'm gonna play around with it this weekend just using everything included with FC for now, I'll prob start out with a simulator mission, but to attempt what I was asking about, I was thinking of making a simulated mission where you jump the Proxima gate and have a good ol' fashion run in with the Neph to secure the other side of the gate... I have no idea if this'll work, so please don't expect me to have completed it by Monday, this will be my first real look at the game's editing functions.

Basic idea is:

Launch from carrier -> Fight a very small group of bombers and escorts on the way to the gate -> Get to the gate which by now is pretty well protected by Confed forces after secret ops - Maybe have a couple of Neph ships coming through, but there'll be a lot of backup at this stage -> You will then, with your wing, jump the gate with a second wing of bombers to do a clean sweep of the area directly on the other side in preparation for a strike team to come through and fully secure it.

The idea is to test if I can do a jump mission or not... wish me luck!
