Carriers...

Hi,I ve been busy for a long time.I just want your help with this.

1)I cant understand why the Confed/Kilrathi carriers (except Midway and Cerberus perhaps) have an open deck?Is nt it too
Dangerous? A single fighter can bypass easily the guns and fly through the Hangar.I know that in Wcacademy and in Wc4 it is mentioned that its difficult to to such thing, but in-game is not too hard ,even in "Crazy" difficulty. Is there any Hangar door ,that closes after the Takeoff/Landing ?Ive never seen any..

2)Are the Kilrathi armada in WC3 new?I mean are the CapShips brand new , or they ve been using them before?

Thats all,I will not be able to reply cause ive got a lot of work with the exams:mad:
But please you reply:cool:

I think the danger of open decks is exagerated. To get to a position where where he could strafe the deck, an enemy pilot would have had to have slipped past all the carrier's CAP and alert interceptors to get close to the carrier, and then dodged its and its escorts' flak barrage while flying straight and level long enough to make it into the hanger deck. If he can do that, then he can he just as easily fire a torpedo spread at the carrier. Given the existence of the fighters like Sabres, Vindicators and Strike Panthers that can carry a fair number of torps, I would be much more worried about that as a carrier skipper than a strafing run.

Best, Raptor

In game, I think it was considered to be cool to be able to fly through a carrier by the designers and thus they implemented it.

IIRC, they are the regular capships you also encounter in the game.
Good luck with your exams in whatever. :)

remember that TCSTigersClaw said that this was in game, not in "real life"

Actually, what he said was that it was a lot easier in-game than made out to be in manuals/novels. :D If we were talking about the in game situation, there's a perfectly simple reason why carriers have open decks: for the entertainment value for players in blowing stuff up.

I'd agree that it probably is exagerated. The defenses on a capship are pretty stiff to just jump in there and shoot some fighters or whatever in the hangar. Besides, the point to torps is to launch at a distance and take the ship out, precisely for the reason of those defenses.

As for having the carriers in WC be able to have "fly through" bays, how would you have been able to pull off a Seether like maneuver while firing the flash pack into the Vessuvius without being able to fly through? :)

Those through deck hangars are cool. One time I fired a torpedo right through the Victory - that was a hoot. Imagine being a tech and you see this torp go whizzing by :D

BTW has anyone ever fired a missile through the hangar and blown up a Kilrathi fighter on the other end?

That is a good torp shot! Aww damn, that would have been the best ever if you hadn't gotten mis-labeled like that! I think that would have went down in the history books.

Yeah, as the most fu**ing dangerous shot ever! Hello Maniac number 2...

Just gotta have some balls, Mpanty. If you don't have some style/ferociousness behind your attacks, why waste your time going out?

Er, I don't think he was saying that shot was dangerous for *you*. It would have been dangerous as hell for the poor techs inside the ship, though. Imagine what would have happened if the missile had hit a fuel line or ammo store.

your namesake ship the Tigers Claw didnt have the described fighter launch bay, niether did the Confederation Class Dreadnoughts, or the Tarawa style carriers (cannot remember the name)

Makes it all the more stylish! After all, assuming Maniac isn't on your ship, remember what Blair said? "There's one person on each ship that leads a charmed life." If that's you, you can always have great moments like this...although if your like Catscratch, there might be...complications. ;)

Maniac's moves don't always come off, like the time he missiled that Drayman. It's reckless as hell to put people's lives at risk by firing a live warhead into a launch bay.

Hi,

Instead of shooting through the launchbay, fly through as a shortcut. It would still scare the techies, but if you are a decent pilot, it's a lot less dangerous for them.

Cheers
