C&C First Decade Ships To Stores (February 7, 2006)

Funny thing is that EA hasn't entirely abandond live-action FMV. Need for speed: Most wanted is a fun arcade racer yet they actualy have a whole bunch of acted cutscenes (I beleive the backgrounds are CG). As far as I can tell, its pretty linear though so nothing like multiple versions in a wc game. however, it kinda puts the nail in the coffin of the idea that EA is afraid of filming cutscenes.

EAs forthcoming FPS, BLACK, for PS2 and XBOX is to feature FMV cutscenes.
There are certainly some positive signs coming from EA lately!

With Live actors? (any links?) Because the issue isn't full motion video at all. Many games have pre-rendered cgi based FMV cutscenes. (More so almost every game has FMV for the intro)

Yes. Live actors are used in the cinematics. BLACK appears to have a live action, film noir style storyline.
You can read the article here

There is also a video preview with this article which gives a glimpse of the cutscenes

I am not a fan of C&C but I will probably buy this on the off chance that it will convince EA of the merits of making a WC box set :p

I know.. I am a WC whore :p

Well, like I said, that shouldn't be the only reason you buy this set, but it is one of the best gaming deals around. There's a lot of high quality games included for pretty cheap.

Are those figures all-time? or monthly? Weekly? Good news, anyway.
This ranking is interesting. Thanks.

BTW, Isn't FMV supposed to be Video or Film with actors? or any GCI is FMV too?

FMV stands for Full-Motion Video. Its pretty much any video that uses the entire screen (low-res or not). In the early days a number of games simulated video using still images and just segments were animated to give the illusion of video.

It became addopted by many as a euphamism for games that had real live actors though.

It's definitely not a very long period. I think it might be hourly. There's some odd or awkward titles on there.

It depends on the context.

As 3D cards improve, pre-rendered CGI becomes less of a necessity. You can have the "cutscenes" using the very own game engine, which is even more seamless.
