Even then, it was kinda crazy of him to hate the Tiger's Claw. Sure, grief does weird stuff to people, but he was probably kinda evil from inside. And even if the Mandarin's Credo wasn't evil per se, their acts do seem malicious and destructive.
BTW, even though WC2 has more in-game characterization and detaisl, we cannot forget the Claw Marks.
