Babylon 5

I love this show and I'm suprised there hasnt been any *recent* threads on it...

My favorite season was the 3rd with the Shadow War, and finding out what happened with Babylon 4.

Favorite episode...Into the Fire
I love seeing all those ships flying around (especially the first ones vessels)

He's talking about Video Toaster, an Amiga 3D utility. B5 used it for the 3D work done in the first season... after that, IIRC, they used SGI machines.

My personal favourite in sci-fi TV shows. Cool aliens, cool character development, awesome battles involving Capital Ships and Fighters (this the first time I've seen this done well. Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers don't count), politics, and Colonel 'Seether'.

Nothing beats the Omega-class Destroyer and Thunderbolt Starfury combination!

I tried so hard to like Babylon 5, but there's just something about it that didn't click with me.

My all time favorite space series- possibly even edging out farscape. Now, if farscape was a living warship with a whole wing of child-fighters, I'd be on moya in a heartbeat. But as it is, Babylon five has more explosions, and thus, more points.

I'm just surprised they never made a B5 space shooter. Would have been cool. The battles in the movie In the Beginning were cool even though the humans weren't doing to well.

The other day I came across The Babylon Project, a Babylon 5 FS 2 mod that's in development. You get to fly Starfurys and even the White Star according to the screenshots. I think they have the models finished but haven't started on the missions yet. As with WC Saga, I'll need to buy a new computer to be able to play it :( .

The only game I know that they made for Babylon 5 was a plug-in for a Macintosh game called Escape Velocity Override and that was pretty fun. You get to fly in just about whatever you want, but you got to earn it, and the like. It's quite fun getting a White Star and flying against the Shadows at Z'Ha'Dum.

If you can find a B5 fan, you'll hear about 'Babylon 5: Into the Fire', an official B5 game that was to be published by Sierra and which was heavily hyped. Unfortunately, the project was cancelled, and nothing ever came of the franchise since then, outside of the odd tabletop game.

There have been fan-created games like 'B5: I Found Her' which do a pretty good job of space-sim combat, especially with the Newtonian physics of B5 combat. :D

The girl I was dating at the time tried to get me into it too- Zilch, couldn't get excited about the series. I watched maybe 4 episodes. Voyager was next, having a woman captain and all that. Once I started with the "Penis Envy" jokes her efforts at getting me to watch sort of began to peter out.....pun intended. I liked TNG though, thought it was really good.

The Book, on Voyager:
Amen.

B5 is pretty a remarkable show. The epic-ness was pretty fun and refreshing from other science fiction TV shows of the time. Writing was generally good, occaisionally great, but sometimes wince-inducing cheesy. Space battles started out BAD, but eventually turned out darn cool.

Word is that there's a B5 motion picture project in the works... who knows how that will turn out (or if)?

I got into B5 when TNT started rerunning it again (first thing I ever saw was In the Beginning). I really liked it and after that was pretty much hooked. I like the fact MJS has so much of the timeline planned out. Really great story...I'm looking forward to the movie...The Memory of Shadows

Remember Space: Above and Beyond? When it first came out, I thought it actually looked a bit like Wing Commander. I liked it a lot at the time just because I liked anything that resembled Wing Commander in some way. It really wasn't a bad show though.

I liked SAAB just because of how much it looked like WC in some aspects. Interesting show, although you could tell it was destined for a long run on TV....

I gave Space: Above and Beyond a look too, with the same "Hey it's Wing Commander!" entusiasm, but I think the Wing Commander characters ruined that show for me because I though the S:AAB characters were a little shallow. I didn't see to many episodes though, so I can't say much about the show. The ultimate Wing Commander esque show will forever be Battlestar Galactica :) .

I also think I'm one of the few people who liked the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries, even if they did make a few certain characters female and the first hour of the first episode was only a stones throw away from being a porno. I'm looking foreward to the full series of it in... February or whenever? I don't remember I haven't looked at Sci-fi's site in a while.
