I believe the screensaver is secretly coming on behind the running game.
What makes me think this?
Every time the game starts, for the first two seconds it displays uninitialized memory. Most of the time it's the last screen that was shown before shutting down; but once in a while it's a screensaver screen. And since Fedora Core installs about a hundred screensavers it switches at random, I can tell that the screensaver screens shown are not from screensavers that were on recently. So my theory is that those screensavers came on while I was playing, but were covered by the in-game video buffer.
Just a theory, but if true it would be a pretty awsome bug... ;-)
Does unix "see" keyboard and mouse while the game is on?
