At Least You Don't Need To Upgrade Soon (December 17, 2002)

Gaming-Age made a birthday tribute to Doom on its ninth birthday this month and credited it among just a few titles that forced people to upgrade their computers en masse. It's always cool to see Wing Commander get its proper honors.
While Wolfenstein 3-D was a monster hit and firmly established id as a player in the action gaming genre, it was Doom that annihilated everything that came before it and set the standard for years to come. Consumers would race to upgrade their PCs or purchase new ones just to be able to play it one of the few titles other than Wing Commander and 7th Guest to do so.
While on the subject, I have been upgrading my GBA in anticipation of Prophecy. If you took all the hardware I have and crammed it together, you'd get about a $400 GBA ($50-100 GBA, $40 Afterburner, $80 TV Converter, $70 TV Tuner, $50 e-reader and Cube link, $40 game/case, $40 Wormcam). It can't all be used together unfortunately, but it sure looks cool. I'm ready, are you?
