Spaceman
Wing Commander , 7th Guest , Simon the sourcerer. Do these names mean anything to you?

If so then you might remember a time when games were fun, Storys were a big part, and there was such a thing as a "Space Simulator"

Im thinking of a project to do in spare time, Involving.. and heres the big part.. making a computer game.

With a Story,
That is Fun,
And isnt focused solely on a high graphics Multiplayer experience.

The other important point.. I want this to be a commercial Project, When the game is complete, we sell it.. for money..

OK, Laugh if you want. At the very least it will be a way for developers to use their skills, and a learning experiance for everyone.

Im looking for anyone who has skills to help out, Preferably Game Developers, Artists, Story Creators, Anyone. I envision a Wing Commander style game, Space shooter, With a story.

anyone interested please email me at matabra [at] hotmail.co.uk

Im An IT Consultant. Big fan of WC and have been looking for a game that comes close, havnt found one. Would like to try to create one. Downside, Im not a developer, and can really only program line of buisness applications for a specific task , So need game developers and artists and the like...

I know its a stupid idea that will prob never get off the ground, but would be nice to give it a go as ive had the idea in my head for so long..

Call me a dreamer..

It's not impossible, but a huge ammount of work to do. And believing or not :) the "fun" part is the hardest one. You can program lots of features, but the real problem is to find wich cobination is the "fun" one.

Considering that you wish to make it a commercial venture, may I humbly suggest the following:

Since you're an IT consultant by trade, your best place will probably be project management.

Recruit, motivate and retain the best people that you can throughout the project lifecycle, give them what they need to do their jobs well, and shepherd them to meet deadlines. You're probably aware of the cost of some key person dropping out in the middle of a project...

For what I'll call the creative assets you'll need a Game Designer (it's a specialised skill), Artists, Audio engineer(s), and possibly separate Musician(s).

For the Software Developers you'll probably want people with some mathematical background, eg. geometry, matrix arithmetic, trigonometry.

Either a separate IT person or you might want to provide the infrastructural support, e.g. Asset catalogue, source control, bug tracker, etc.

These are diverse disciplines with their unique set of needs and ways of working, so project management skills are essential to create a finished product (although it's not a glamorous job).

Well since you want to sell it for money, how much are you going to pay your programmers and artists? If you're not an artist and not a programmer and not a level designer, what exactly are you planning on doing?
