This really REALLY sucks.
I just go hold of a lot of the WC 3d models... they are all in *.3ds formats so I easily assume that they'd open in 3d Studio Max
WRONG
I cant open them and to make matters worse I dont know how to open them or with what !?
Yes yes... I've used google... but other than converting through polytrans for which I have to spend lots of money... I couldn't find any other useful info.

Sooo any info would be good... as in how the heck do I open these files in 3DS MAX 8 !?

Well, You can open them in 3DSMax. The Trick is, though - you're not going to "Open" them, you're going to need to "Import" them. See, the 3ds format is a portability format - used for transfering model and UV information between programs. It's not a native format like the .Max files.
Basically the process it is: Open a new MAX file, Go to File>Import, select your file, and enjoy. That's it. It's spelled out quite clearly in the user manual.

HAHAHA... dude... you are the best !!!
Thanks... I just tried your method and it worked out perfectly.
Basically I got the models to do some animations work.

Thanks again bro.
