Analog and digital joysticks

I noticed that a lot of people are having the same difficulty with getting their joystick to work with Wing Commander 1 and 2 as I am. I discovered that the game requirements for Wing Commander 2 is an analog joystick. I was trying to use a digital joystick. I realize that digital joysticks should be able to emulate analogs, but maybe it isn't working. Has anyone that has had this problem tried using a analog joystick instead of a digital and got it to work?

Actually I believe joysticks need to support DOS. There are analog joysticks which don't support DOS. I have a Logitech Wingman Digital Extreme (the old red button). It's was design like a hybrid so it supports Dos 5. I use it to play all my DOS base games.

Actually, all real analog sticks *do* support DOS, with up to four buttons being supported. Some have some sort of TSR to give them more functions. There are one or two digital sticks that apparantly have DOS support, as well.
