AllTinker has posted a preview trailer for his upcoming Wing Commander patch! The highly anticipated release is expected to be the first accurate slowdown option for the original Wing Commander since... well, 1990! Get ready to finally throw out your low-end 386.


Here's something I'm working on... Wing Commander for DOS has always had ISSUES on anything much past mid-tier 386 machines. I've made an EXE patch which fixes this and other issues - it also adds some new features, including configurable difficulty. On real DOS hardware or DOSBox. Coming soon(TM)!

So unfortunately we had a family health emergency over new years... :( I don't think it'll delay things by too much - I pretty much only have the final tests and packaging left to do for the first release. Sigh.
 
Thanks @alucard - I've spoken about it on Discord a little but basically my Mum's cancer needs another round of attention, and it coming back had some pretty immediate effects. Nasty stuff, but thankfully there's good reasons to be hopeful.

Anyway, there's definitely been progress. :) I have been caught out a little by the classic "last 10% takes as long as the first 90%" software development thing - not helped by one tricky bug, which took days to sort out by itself - but I feel like I'm so very close... I really really hope it's this week; I've been trying to knock over some other things so I could spend some dedicated time on it, so fingers crossed!

Thought I'd just drop another update here - I've finally finished porting the mod to SM2 (since it's a separate EXE), which was the biggest remaining task - and it was a much larger job than I was anticipating.

There's still a few things left to do, but I'm not expecting any more big surprises on that sort of scale... :p
 
For anyone subscribed to this topic, I just thought I'd drop a note that the first beta release is out!

Since the last update here I ended up rewriting a huge subset of the game's input system... It took a while. :D
