I don't know much about mods, but those look good, especially that Hornet.

Ever since all these screenshots of mods have been coming out, the ones that really make me drool are the ones with WC1/2/Priv in fully textured 3D!

What would be sweet would be to set a game solely in the time of WC1/2 using a mod of Alliance or the Vision engine. I do so love seeing a hornet in SVGA textured 3D...
 
I assume the reason for the large differences between WC2 and WC3 detail was that you just couldn't have that many polygons to draw a nice model of something like the Concordia in those days. Face it, WC1 and WC2 ships are much more curvy than the rigid polygons from WC3 onwards.

And is that what WCP's engine called? Vision, that is.
 
WCP used the Vision Engine, yes.

The difference between WC2 and WC3 is that WC3 used polygons... WC2 used pre-rendered bitmaps.
 
I know that, and if WC1 and 2 could be done back then in higher res, as many have done so now, they certainly look better than the WC3 and WC4 ships.
