3rd Oxford Mission

hehe i managed to finish this mission on first time...koz i got the kilrathi to help me! lol

I was still on good terms with the Kilrathi so they didnt touch me...but they sure did help me fight the Demons hahaha

I love this remake!!!

I actually finished this mission last night on the first try.

Ship: Demon
Guns: 4 Tach w/ autotrack
Missles: We dun need no stinking missles!
Torps: See missles =)

I Don't know if I was just lucky or what. Of course the Drayman was limping to Oxford but she held together.

The 4 tachs with autotracking is awesome. When I auto'ed in the demons were pounding on the Drayman. I flew in and took the one on her tail which was basically stopped and opening up with full guns. I blew it up quick and went after the others. I think the key was quick kills. The autotracking helped with that.

The second wave was tougher... basically because they would not fire at me... they just kept firing at the Drayman.

On another note... I'll take the gun config and the speed of the Demon over a centurion any day. I had actually scrapped enough money together to fully outfit a centurion. 3/4 million credits later there she stood on the flight deck in New Detroit. The sleek design... hard lines. I was drooling as a got into the cockpit.
I blasted off for glory and got about .05 klicks from the planet before I was dusted by a bunch of scrub Kilrathi. How embarrassing. The Centurion handled like a pregnant waterbuffalo after being in the Demon and the gun spread leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyway... Having a complete blast with the remake... This was one of the best games of all time IMHO...

Then you're gonna love 1.1--we're adding some real gems--nothing huge--but just a bit of eye candy that should make people nostalgic and so forth

Now I can't wait for 1.1 ... nostalgic? What could make 1.0 closer to the original Privateer?.... Cursed comment! I was at ease before that, now I can't stop thinking about it.

well don't count on too much--just little things (though those are always the hardest to get right)...we're still debating if some changes make it harder--but there's definitely more flexibility--like the ability to do a ship tradein

I love little things. Little things are the difference between a good job and a great job. That's why they're the hardest to get right, because you won't settle with a mid-job in a "little thing", you want it perfect.

Well, these new little things are perfect. :) You will be pleased, then.

Ditto, I friggin' *LOVE* PR, and I can't wait for 1.1. Kudos to you guys, big-time.

Relating to this mission, I think I figured out a great way to play through the game over multiple versions:

1.0: Grab a Demon ASAP, load it to the gills... almost done.

1.1: Centurion, baby... "pregnant waterbuffalo" it may be, but I still have visions from the original (literally, I have dreams about this) of floatin' in space as the baddest mofo in Gemini. :)

Later versions: Play around with whatever other ships I can. :D

Thanks again guys.... a labor of love that a bunch of us, er, love.

Just won Oxford on the third attempt.

On the first I was surprised by the Demons being green targets. Arghh. On the second I realized that the enemies are persistant, so the first wave had the leftovers from the first attempt. I killed them all and then reloaded and made sure my second nav point was where the hunters were hanging out. With my escorts (two Galaxies) I suddenly had a bunch of ships firing on the attackers and cleaned them up quickly.

Then did some Retro wacking -- gee, the computer generated missions will set up almost 20 retros -- that is a lot of Retros to whack in a Demon (autotrack, milspec tachyon cannon -- I need to figure out if milspec tachs differ from regular). Autotrack seems to mess up the ITS for aiming, but you can't sell it once it is installed.

Well, off to Palan.

This game is great!

The Tachyons show up in the "milspec" category for guns (as opposed tp light, medium, or heavy), but there is only one Tachyon cannon in the game.

Ah, thanks. I've been looking all over ;)

I'm wondering if since energy seems to not be a problem I should switch to Ionic Pulse Cannon or not, but I'll hold off, since I'm enjoying the tachyons.

Finally got the tractor beam to work. I'd had some situations where it seemed to work automatically, but I got a handle on turning off the other guns and firing it and made a rescue! Hurrah!

Printed out the short summary of commands. Too bad Pause doesn't pause the game sometimes and that bringing up the map doesn't pause the game at all.

when does 'p' not pause the game? (were you holding down shift or cntrl)

I usually hit
p cntrl-n
to bring up the nav map

I hit P and when I came back and hit it again, I'd taken a fair amount of damage, even though when I hit P there were no enemies in range.

Hmm, I rarely hit P, must have been an artifact.

Like using it with the Nav map.

your screens go all staticy when you press 'p'
this is so you can't pause all the time to check radar positions and plan an attack

Oh... so it was on purpose...
I almost fixed it ;)
(wanted to, but never got to fixing it)

Gracias..

the 3rd mission was by far the hardest in the game (no probs with palan as i only have to protect my self, and not some good for nothing, wuss drayman).
i often found the drayman was blowen up before i even got anywhere close to it, and then i would end up getting killed by the large numbers of deamons. all this talk of misiles, i am pretty sure i have fired my entire load of misiles at deamons and hit nothing. i also dont use auto tracking so it is almost impossible. however thanks to the respawing bug, where everything remains after you die, includeing your wing men, i have started to have more fun than i though possible. useing this bug, you can build up large forces of wingmen, (i have had a fleet of 6 steletos, 3 braudswards, and 3 galexys) they had no problem takeing out the deamons, and then, you can lead them into fights with confeds or kilrathi. you leave your wingmen in one system, then jump to the next and atack any one so they will follow you and jump back into the system where you left your wing men, doing this to your hearts content, i have mannaged to create some very large battles involving all factions. this is especially fun when you are in a paragidim or the kilrathi cap ship, (you can switch ships to your wing men if you want) and then you can have some cap ship battles.
sad as it is, i have to admit i have had more fun doing this then following the plot!!! (i played privateer 1 and rf to death when it was in dos). this becomes an awsome feture when you take several missions in the same system that involve large numbers of kilrathi, retros or pirates, and lead them into battles with one another.
if this bug is 'fixed' in the new releace, i think i proabbly won't upgrade.

For your own, take a look at .privateer100/serialized_xml, there's a folder for your savegame and inside the csv holding almost every stat about your ship.

For the others, kind of the same, but in units/units.csv

Be careful editing with Excel, if you're in windows, as that usually wrecks the files. Make a backup before doing anything, and if possible try to use Excel only to find where you have to make changes, and use a text editor to actually make them (like notepad).

Ok... I took a look but i guess.... i'm to stupid ...was looking for somthing that said centurion max speed 500 afterburner 1000 as it would fit to my underdeveloped programing skills...but... didn't find it... help?... please?
