3D Printed Privateer ships.

Galaxy class freighter

Turned out fine :)
The models are not to scale to each other......this one should have been printed HUGE.
The tachyon canons are tiny compared to the tachyon canons on the Centurion :)

Seriously impressive stuff! I assume you'll be painting these as well? It would just add that little something extra.

I don't 3D print, but I do scratch-build. You can check out the link my sig for some of my Wing Commander work. I've always wanted to play with one of those things, though. The printer, that is.

WOW.
What would I print with a 3d Printer?

My Gettysburg, Bengal and Confederation from Saga maybe Snakeir and Rigakh - mine is very huge - about Confederation class size based on Kitsume TT game
Artemis and Jupiter Battlestars and Cylon Basestar from Deadlock
He-Man, Skeletor and Orko - HUGE Masters Fan.
some Star Wars Ships

how much is a good 3d Printer? :D

The cheapest, around 200 dollars https://hobbyking.com/en_us/tronxy-x-3-desktop-3d-printer-kit-w-auto-level-us-plug.html
It will take some tinkering to get working exelent, but you learn alot in the process, and you dont loose a lot if you loose interest in printing.

400 dollars https://www.gearbest.com/3d-printers-3d-printer-kits/pp_441282.html
This gets you a really popular printer that prints great.

750 dollars gets you one of the best DIY printers on the market. https://www.prusa3d.com/
No chinese parts in it, lots of features, and it prints great.

My printer, the Tevo little monster 800 dollars.

It prints great, but out of the box it is not so good. I have upgraded a few bits on mine.....not a beginner printer.

60.000 dollrs get you a printer that colors your prints at the same time. I do not reccomend this one for the beginner :)
Projet 660 https://www.3dhubs.com/3d-printers/projet-cjp-660pro

There are Pro`s and Con`s with every printer. The perfect solution is not out there yet.
SLA printers are on the way. They use a bath of resin, and lasers or UV light to print/cure extremly fine layers/objects and make outstanding prints.
for 1000 dollars, you can get a good chiense one that mostly works.....but wait a little longer for better models

The 4 first printers mentioned all use 1.75mm plastic spools, for printing PLA, ABS, PTEG, or a whole lot more plastic stuff.....even rubber plasic, wood, carbon....all sorts of stuff.

And of the Tiger's Claw herself.
You know, I would utterly love to see a print of a WC carrier - really, any WC carrier, the Claw, the Concordia, Victory, whatever, take your pick - loaded out with its textbook fighter compliment. The fun thing about such a project is that it would require a detailed exploration of all the issues with ship sizes and scale in Wing Commander. After all, for all of its impressive 700 metres, the Claw s not about to fit all those huge WC1-scale fighters...

But come to think of it... hey, how big would that be, anyway? If you were to scale the 700 metre Tiger's Claw down to whatever scale that Galaxy and Tarsus are, how big would the model be? I imagine printing it would require a rather different approach.
