3d Cockpits?

This is a short question but how do you actualy add the 3d cockpits...I'm looking to make some for my mod but haven't a clue on where to start
 
The cockpit struts are just regular meshes, referenced to in the ship file (regular WCP uses co_ as a prefix for the cockpit strut meshes).

WCP uses a 60 degree FOV... testing your mesh with the appropriate camera in your 3d modeling application will give a pretty accurate preview of the final result.
 
It's just a regular mesh. There is the same poly limit of about 1200 faces than for any other mesh.
