Is there any information available on how WC1 & 2 in space gameplay/graphics were created?

I'll get to the rest of this thread at some point but I get the impression that good programmers are becoming rare and so such cheats are becoming the norm, not just for AI but at all levels of design. You want the simulation but it's too expensive both in effort and processing, so you end up...

Eh, is it really? Rebel Galaxy Outlaw uses the same engine and nobody has ever said that it looks similar.

That's not necessary, the CIC has private copies of the source for both 1 & 2 (though apparently parts of it are incomplete)

Beautiful! This will be a godsend for the wiki ― we have the booth images for instance but they're screenshots rather than asset rips and they're nowhere near as clean.

Artsy Diorama Shows Off Classic WC Scene (February 20, 2024)

I was thinking the same, but for the original Wing Commander cover (or maybe End Run!) The odd looking part is having it cube shaped ― I've seen similar acryllic dioramas but they're usually a stand with one acryllic in front of the other.

The Transverse Story Revealed (February 11, 2024)

Also, I'd really like to get more into this because I find the subject of specific ship design detailing really fascinating, just as soon as I figure out what the question to ask is. (Maybe it's "what's a split line?")

You wouldn't even have to do it yourself!

The Transverse Story Revealed (February 11, 2024)

Thanks for all that. Intellectually I feel like I shouldn't be surprised, but they really do look so similar. It sets off my internal Occam's razor, even if the conclusions it leads to don't necessarily make sense, because unfortunately cynicism makes it simpler to assume some level of...

Dune: Part Two (updated new release date 3/1/2024)

No Children? After the miniseries I can't imagine it any other way, and it does actually complete the narrative arc of the previous book.

The Transverse Story Revealed (February 11, 2024)

About the community, that was another thing Star Citizen (didn't) have that Transverse did: an audience that was predisposed to hate them. I don't know how many people outside of the Mechwarrior community remember this now but PGI had absolutely firebombed their goodwill over the previous two...

This is fantastic. I mentioned Privateer 2 more out of hope than expectation, but I never expected you to add it within weeks.

The Transverse Story Revealed (February 11, 2024)

Very similar to Star Citizen, except lacking any of the marketing subtlety that raised it six million dollars in forty days, while this died after less than a month without even pulling in $20000. One thing I've always being curious about is the ship design. At the time the bottom row ship...

Super Wing Commander Shuttle Observed in Bioforge (January 24, 2024)

It appears in an Academy episode (The Last One Left?) but I don't think it was ever explicit.

And the Winner Is... (January 28, 2024)

I feel like this year has been a really good one for fan projects. There's a lot of high-quality work covering a really diverse range and you could shuffle the nominees and not feel like you'd done a disservice. It's not like 20 years ago when the top prize was between Standoff and Saga and...

    Rebel Galaxy Outlaw!

That's good to know, it always looked like something to be really proud of! (I say "looked" because my laptop is quite a bit older than "recent", although it's cheap enough now that I can probably give it a shot. Do you get royalties?) The art direction is still one of the best I've ever seen...

The Making of Victory's Gunnery Control (December 4, 2023)

I always wondered how gunnery control was supposed to function. Thinking about it now I guess it would function like any other fire control system but back then I wondered why a space carrier with no big guns needed a dedicated room for them. It's interesting that they chose it as a location...

Really good work! I'm really excited for the model viewer since there's never been a good one, and especially for Privateer 2 as some of the models in the 3D archive are corrupted (Heron).

A Klavs approved 3d printable version of his Drakhri

That F-16 really brings home just how big the ships are. The Wing Commander II sizes are on the small side, too.

Tarsus (Privateer) painted 3D Print (01)

The C-1000 marking comes from the original Tarsus model. We have it, along with most of the Privateer 3D art assets, and it's presumably what the print modeler used as reference. (The mesh filename is "CLUNKER"). I thought to measure the original meshes to settle once and for all just how big...
