    STRANGE Privateer 2 event

First, understand that I play Priv2 on an antique DOS 6.22 Pentium-166 machine. I play all of my old DOS games on that computer, I've never used DOSBox. If P2 freezes/locks up on that system, the only recourse is to turn the machine off / on. I don't know if DOSBox can free a modern computer...

    WCPedia - Progress Update

In the WCPedia Project, for Privateer 2 missions; the Ralph McCloud entry; https://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Ralph_McCloud It says: Trigger You won't see this mission before you've had Dmitri Avignoni crack the memory solid passcode in the main plot (see Mission O: Codbreaker). I realize...

Privateer 2: Please insert CD 1 ... Problem

I don't know, Lin; I think that we could all benefit if a LOT more was known about the EXE. There is quite a bit of stuff that *I* would change (including optimizing the additional cinematic mission occurances, especially for a NO-CD setup). I would change the triggers, and change the order of...

Privateer 2: Please insert CD 1 ... Problem

I can clarify, but these are only ... "clues" ... ; it COULD be due to the way(s) I tend to play my savegames; how I progress, when I "stall" the Main Plot to make money and upgrade, etc. I wish there were definitive facts about precisely WHAT stimulates the individual additional cinematics...

Privateer 2: Please insert CD 1 ... Problem

One more thing... copy the 3 CDs onto HD *FIRST*, then defrag, THEN install the game and defrag. Overall thrashing of the drive will be less severe, defragging will be easier.

Some Priv (1) hacks if anyone wants em

A lot of the stuff has been more or less documented for years. Raw info... to be altered with a hex editor. I just turned it into programs. I think that turning the BH Demons around Palan into Retro Talons was somewhat new. My biggest contribution was point-by-point removal of the asteroid...

(sorry... I should have used CODE tags to those posts... oh, well... the source code can still point the way for those interested)

    Priv2 Mission Checklist

... thought I might post this, some people might find it useful. Copy, paste, print, modify for your own use... I keep my P2 saves in a series of archives, \000 (which contains all "blank" GAMExx.IFF, useful for seeing the introductory movies again, preparing new savegame "sets", etc)., \001...

Privateer 2: Please insert CD 1 ... Problem

... thought I might add an observation ... If you use an altered MOVIES.IFF, this DOES change the order of the occurance of the additional cinematic missions. Confirmed; I've done this several times. Actually, a long time ago, I figured out how to do this on my own; except that the CD...

Some Priv (1) hacks if anyone wants em

A long time ago I wrote some utilities for Privateer 1. I thought I might post them. Unfortunately I used a DOS compiler (Borland C++ 3.0) to make the EXEcs, I have no idea if they would run under modern OS's (Probably wouldn't. Maybe under DOSBox?). I run "old games" on a DOS 6.22 machine...

    Privateer 2 editing and extracting

I haven't bothered with the extraction tools, savegame modifiers, etc., myself... in any case I have a somewhat "moody" Vista machine (my main computer) and there is no guarantee that the utilities would work (unless some of these tools are DOS-compatible). For playing P2, I use a legacy...

P2 SOS #17 CIS Carrier Forgen; No Reward?

Thanks, Bob. I'll pay more attention to the mission next time around and make a note in my copy of the Strategy Guide.

P2 SOS #17 CIS Carrier Forgen; No Reward?

In Privateer 2, the last SOS mission (SOS mission # 17, "CIS CARRIER FORGEN"); No matter how I work it, I don't seem to ACTUALLY receive a reward, even though I DO get the pop-up message "REWARD 4000 Cr". In this mission, you defend a Military Carrier ("Forgen") at NAV 180 against 10...

    Why we’re all here.

I've never bothered with the DOSBox route. I maintain a legacy DOS 6.22 computer in a corner of my "computer room"; it is a Pentium-166 thing, 192 Mb RAM, 2 Gb HD, doesn't even have a modem. It is there solely for playing old DOS games and sometimes to run old DOS apps. Sometimes I write...
