This is something I've been curious about, given the tenative demo realease in February. Did the company(Buzzmonkey Studios) that two of the project developers work for require their employees to turn over all rights to the code that they worked on while they are employed? I recall having read...
This is great reference material.
It will be interesting to compare the actual in-game stats with those found in the manual and the playtester's guide.
I was wondering though, there were claims that computer-controlled ships mounted weaker weaponry than the player. Does anyone have any...
I think much of the confusion arose over what WC:U is, and isn't.
WC:U FAQ on sourceforge.net
For me, WC:U is more of a framework/resource for Wing Commander mods based on Vega Strike.
The development releases use the missions and campaigns from Privateer Remake mostly as a means of...

Yes, I second that. The model is beautiful.
I do have a question though. Will the cockpits of the Galaxy and the Tarsus be transparent like they are at present?
An updated WCU alpha 0.2.1 was uploaded on Oct. 14, 2005 :

I'm not exactly sure if it's the firewall or the video card's drivers(the most likely suspect, card's bios is non-flashable) that caused this, but the problem persisted in the Windows 98 system even though it didn't have a firewall installed and I couldn't run it fullscreen(okay in windowed...
I had the same problem (Windows 98 , ATI Radeon 9600SE 128 MB, Celeron) and the quick fix was to run it in windowed mode by running the setup.exe. I also had to ALT-TAB to go back to the desktop and return to the game in order to run it in fullscreen mode to work around the apparent freeze (it...
It's a minor quibble really, but shouldn't the pirate mining bases in Pentonville system ("Oakham") , Sherwood system ("Tuck") , and Capella system ("Drake") have unit names that conform to the campaign dialogue?
If you use Windows, have you tried running the game at a lower resolution than the desktop is set? ( e.g. the desktop is set at 1024 x 768 so the game is set to run at 800 x 600 or lower )
In Privateer Remake 1.0, the Paradigm can't be purchased until you complete the Steltek Drone mission for Admiral Terrell ,but a Kamekh and the cloaking device is for sale at the large asteroid in Tr'Pakh. The Drayman can occasionally be found at New Detroit after completing the Oxford missions...
Another cheesy way of completing the steltek drone mission and incidentally obtaining said drone as a cargo wingman is to tractor it in your capship (if you have one). This would also be easier if you have a cloaking device installed. This could even be done to the steltek fighter in Nitir...
Since there are 3 kilrathi factions in the 06 April 2005 code update, maybe deleting a line in the "faction_ships.py" file in the "modules" folder might help with the kilrathi factions hating each other(kilrathi_insys vs. kilrathi):
(kilrathi,kilrathi,retro,retro,pirates), #firekkan...
Maybe a unit scale of "0.02" in the units.csv would be appropriate if the jalthi, hellcat, and thunderbolt models in "wcu-ships.zip" are used as placeholders. The game might probably slow down though.
Maybe it's line 210 in "faction_ships.py" that could be the cause - there are 2 entries for "firekkan". The one that says "(kilrathi, kilrathi, kilrathi, kilrathi, confed, militia, retro, retro, hunter, hunter, hunter,), #firekkan ".
The Hellcat and the Thunderbolt also seem to have the same problem with being invisible. Is it advisable to use the models provided by spiritplumber in "wcu-ships.zip" as place holders and adjust the unit scaling in "units.csv" until all the modeling and texturing is completed by the dev team...
