    USS San Francisco SSN-711

I'm not looking for a debate either. My original point was that the introduction of aircraft carriers made battleships obsolete, not their vulnerability to torpedoing as Death had suggested. I have attempted to back up my facts below, however. Again, I'm not looking for a debate either. I'm just...

    Chicken's WIP webcomic

I love it! EA should hire you to do the ship designs for their next Wing Commander game! (Whenever that may be.) ;)

    USS San Francisco SSN-711

Your call of incorrect is incorrect. ;) The Japanese did not fully understand the power of carrier fleets when they attacked Midway. According to this page the Japanese simulations of Midway showed that the carriers would be a sufficient force to take out the battleships. The umpires didn't...

Wing Commander: A Fool's Trip to Hell

*shrug* Okay. Just sounds a bit odd to me. :)

Wing Commander: A Fool's Trip to Hell

Nice. It sounds like a really interesting series. My only comment is that you might want to refer to the Admiralty as "Confederation Brass" (informally "the higher ups" or "the powers that be") as opposed to the "Confederation high command". The only modern usage of the term "high command" that...

Who would win out of these Sci-Fi stories

These are really stupid arguments. For example, how can one compare the Star Trek universe (which originally, at least, attempted to be somewhat scientifically accurate), with the magical Star Wars universe where power generation numbers are magnitudes higher than any power in the known...

    USS San Francisco SSN-711

Using an example from the Falklands War is an interesting example. That same war established the French "Exocet" missile in British minds as a very powerful and fearsome weapon. A single missile managed to breach the defenses and sink the HMS Sheffield. Yet in 1987, an Iraqi Mirage fighter...

    USS San Francisco SSN-711

It changes over time, and tends to be nothing more than a guideline. - Battleships have traditionally been named after states. (e.g. U.S.S Iowa, U.S.S. Wisconsin, etc.) - Carriers are currently named after US Presidents or important political figures. (U.S.S John F Kennedy, U.S.S. Ronald...

    RadioControlled WingC. "airplanes"

I was originally going to suggest the same thing, but then lorddarthvik said, "I saw a plane shaped like something like a rapier without the front wings, and it couldnt fly.. it snapped"

Obviously, no one here has seen cars with modern GPS navigations systems and DVD/Nintendo entertainment systems. Damn near the same thing. ;-)

    RadioControlled WingC. "airplanes"

Actually, it's lovingly known as "the falling refrigerator". It does glide, but only for sufficiently flexible definitions of "glide". Think of it more as a hypersonic slalom down the steepest slope of Mount Everest. (Which still beats the hell out of a capsule landing.) :) The F-4 was prior...

Difference between WC4 cd and WC4 DVD versions?

I wonder why? I saw the scene not all that long ago, and I have to say that I wasn't impressed. It looked like he squeezed "blood" out onto the captain's throat as he pulled a rubber knife along the "cut". Not too particularly shocking. :) Edit: On second thought, maybe that's the exact...

    RadioControlled WingC. "airplanes"

The F15 story is actually quite famous. My favorite part is that the engineers asked to look at the issue declared that "there is no way an F15 can fly with only one wing!" :p EDIT: One other interesting and related bit O' trivia is that the F-4 Phantom pilots used to joke that, "I guess if...

Any chance the Tiger's Claw would be a good shape? The wedge shape of the flight deck should provide a good wing. If that's not quite it, maybe the Concordia is chunky enough to fly? In case anyone's interested, here are some of my favorite RC shapes: Flying Lawnmower Snoopy's Doghouse

    Wing Commander Tactics Rapier done

Atekimogus, I just realized that you have the cockpit on that Rapier *exactly* correct. If you look at the internal cockpit views and compare them to the external design of your Rapier, they precisely match up! Awesome job! :)

    favorite TV Trek

The Next Generation The Original Series was also great, but TNG was more thoughtful. Everything after that was pretty poor and constantly got worse as time went on. Manny Coto showed that it is still possible to make Star Trek interesting, but it may be awhile before we see a show again.

    USS San Francisco SSN-711

I assume that your father is unavailable to talk about it? Or were you looking for some sort of technical info? As someone else said, much of the later info is still classified to this day. If you're looking for the men (no women on subs) who served with your dad, try this page. Most naval ships...

    WC1 as freeware?

That, I fully agree with. :) Just to be clear on this, I wan't suggesting that WC is quasi-legal abandonware. I was merely pointing out the fact that it exists on such sites, but that the community in general feels strongly toward obtaining legal copies.

    WC1 as freeware?

Oh, come off it LOAF. You know just as well as I do that things aren't quite so cut and dry. Yes, Abandonware is technically illegal in many circumstances, but at the same time hundreds (if not thousands) of games are being lost to time because of an exceedingly long copyright. How much history...
