    Privateer Cap ship

I dunno... at the speeds at which WC fighters are moving, nukes theoretically shouldn't be effective as an area weapon. I know there were times when having four of those suckers hanging off my Broadsword would have turned a tricky strike into a cakewalk. In fact, an ImRec seeker mounted to the...

Size and other questions, Kilrathi & Ships

Well, size-wise, there doesn't seem to be room on some of the designs, like the Hornet. Presumably, space is always at a premium, so leaving a long empty portion down the middle of the fusalege would be a real waste. I wonder if the Sabre has a crawlspace. Doesn't look like there'd be room...

Size and other questions, Kilrathi & Ships

Of course, since all the ships in Privateer are personal starships, complete with cargo bays, and not fighters based off of a capital ship, it stands to reason that they'd have actual crew spaces other than the cockpit, unlike say, a Ferret or modern single-seat fighter.

    The 5 Deadliest Pilots

hmmm, in that case, it depends on the efficiency of the system. Given that in WC, fighters accelerate from standing to hundreds of km/s, it's interesting that a difference in a couple G's would still exist at the limit. I imagine they may allow some sense of movement to give the pilot more...

    The 5 Deadliest Pilots

Moot when you have artificial gravity (or 'acceleration compensators', heh) As for Hobbes, I imagine the Confed fighters that he was qualified for have roomy enough cockpits that a custom seat for him would fit without *too* much trouble.

The Vampire Strikes Back (May 4, 2007)

Dang, did you catch the part where he considers making a 1/48 just for himself?

    The 5 Deadliest Pilots

Maintenance, probably - human fighters would not be designed for ease of access by Kilrathi mechanics. I'm betting they'd need to refit the cockpit or recruit some rather weedy 'Cats for pilots as well.

    Arena's Fighting Ships (April 14, 2007)

I dunno, while a Gothri is undoubtedly cool, it comes across as a Kilrathri Sabre - same main guns, similar missiles, turret at the back, similar performance... although it does have stronger shields. More interesting would be somthing like the lumbering Jalkehi or 'egg-with-sledgehammer'...

    WC2 installation problem

Sweetness, I just found my copy of WC2 Deluxe (bought wayyyy back in the mid/late-90's when I was in elementary school!) Will it work with my USB joystick? How crappy a computer can I use and still be okay? (running on a PIII 800 with only onboard graphics at the moment).

Confed+Kilrathi forces during Enyo Capture of 2639

One thing I'm trying to get around is the parallel fighter types. It sounds like the Ferret, Arrow, Hornet, and Epee were all in use as light fighters at the same time. I suppose you could make the case that it's no worse than the Spitfire, Typhoon, Tempest, Mustang, Thunderbolt, Warhawk...

    Morningstar or Sabre?

Sequal to Starlancer. Developed by Digital Anvil and published by Microsoft. Sorta like a new Privateer. Pros: Large universe to explore, tight single-player campaign, nifty control scheme, cool ships. Cons: Large universe does not feel completely fleshed out, single-player campaign a...

    Morningstar or Sabre?

Ugh, I hated that about Freelancer. It led to questions like why no one was beating the crap out of Liberty when their fighters sucked so much  In all honesty, stats-wise, the Morningstar is a better fighter, but it's also a bit sterile, like the Gothri. The Sabre is powerful, but...

    Morningstar or Sabre?

They needed a new ship for Secret Ops 1, but not one so powerful that it would remove the challenge. When you get to SO2, they give the player a Morningstar, but set you against more high end fighters - Gothris, Sabres, Grikaths

    Morningstar or Sabre?

yes, there is that. It's fun being able to smack down light fighters in a couple shots, but a lot less fun when you take down their shields and find yourself completely out of juice.

    Morningstar or Sabre?

Gothri ==> Sabre with weaker turret guns and Morningstar levels of durability (much stronger shields and side armour compared to the Sabre) Identical guns and similar missile loadout compared to the Sabre. Crossbow ==> A faster, but still afterburner less Broadsword with only a rear turret...

    Morningstar or Sabre?

That's what I've gathered. I suspect that the change in fighters might have to do with the 3D engine limitations in rendering WC2-era fighters, since it leaves the questions of why the Ferret, Epee, and Arrow all simultaneously coexisted, or why they have enough Broadswords for general policing...

    Morningstar or Sabre?

O_o That's way more info than I knew existed :O Can you give us a detailed fighter timeline? From playing WC1/WC2, here's what I have: WC1 Hornet Scimitar (retired after SM2) Rapier (new) Raptor WC2 Ferret (upgraded in SO1) Epee Rapier (new version) Sabre Broadsword Morningstar (prototype...

    Morningstar or Sabre?

My favourite aspect of the Ferret and Epee were the center-mounted main guns compared to the wide spread of the Hornet.

    Morningstar or Sabre?

I agree - before you fly the Sabre, you fly the lightly armed and shielded Ferret, which takes forever to kill anythign in, the Epee which has the craptacular shields of the Ferret without any armour to speak of, the Broadsword, where using your turrets is often easier than turning, and the...

    Why skids?

Some thoughts: In modern cat launches, the aircraft is strapped in, and essentially thrown off the ship. (Okay, okay, it gets accelerated towards the end of the ship). In WC2, that's simple enough to do - instead of strapping in the nosewheel, you either strap in all the skids, or simply...
