    Fighter/Bomber In-Service Dates Visualized (February 29, 2024)

Yeah, the armour definitely lets the Epee down. The AI loves its cheap face missile shots too much for any player ship to get away with having that little armour. Edit: On the subject of WC2 ships, does anyone know when they added auto-attacking turrets to Academy? The GOG-version has them, but...

    Fighter/Bomber In-Service Dates Visualized (February 29, 2024)

Same as WC2. No one likes the Epee, but I still think it and the Ferret are some of the best ships in the game if you stay on your toes. Especially if you disregard the purposely broken ships like the Wraith and Morningstar.

A Closer Look at the Original 12 Cadets of Wing Commander Academy (March 10, 2024)

Huh, I had no idea Archer was played by Dana Delany. 90s animated Lois Lane is easily my favourite interpretation of the character.

Is there any information available on how WC1 & 2 in space gameplay/graphics were created?

From what I've heard it's pretty solid but still needs a bit of post launch love. IIRC they added an optional modernised control scheme that more of less breaks the camera if you use it. As for Wing Commander I'm gonna assume if EA didn't do anything with it back when more than three people...

    Fighter/Bomber In-Service Dates Visualized (February 29, 2024)

Yeah, I'm not usually a fan of the whole 'better ship is the same ship with more nonsense glued on it' thing sci-fi sometimes does, but Arena made it pretty clear these were the Wing Commander equivalent of random third world militias putting a 30mm turret on their Honda Civic. If anything they...

A Klavs approved 3d printable version of his Drakhri

The Drakhri is such a good looking ship. Too bad we never got to fly one in the games.

True Origins of End Run Covert Art Revealed! (November 4, 2023)

I love that early 90s sci-fi look where it's kinda grounded and industrial but with bright neon lights everywhere. I'm not sure what inspired it, but I wouldn't hate to see it make a comeback.

Impressively Tall South Korean Privateer Added to Collection (October 17, 2023)

That makes sense. I guess things like Ultima never really made it over?

Impressively Tall South Korean Privateer Added to Collection (October 17, 2023)

I've always wondered how the hell you read Hangul in early 90s video games. The roman letters got kinda butchered to fit into their pixel budget half the time, so I have no idea how they dealt with more intricate alphabets.

    Starfield

There's a fair bit of space combat already. Other than getting jumped frequently because of the bounty origin battles between the local faction and one of the pirate ones seem fairly frequent, and mission board usually have two or three space combat missions. As for the game in general the...

What is the name of that table and the structure

Yeah, but he said structure, so I assumed he meant that specific setup (circle/pillar of monitors), which showed up a fair bit in contemporary sci-fi but isn't really a thing irl to the best of my knowledge.

What is the name of that table and the structure

Pretty sure real militaries use powerpoint. I don't think big wads of ceiling CRTs or holographic tables have ever been a thing irl, it's more of a 90s sci-fi trope.

Platolum Alloys + Prussian Retailers = Practical Thinking? (August 30, 2023)

I assume oil is a TNGesque quip about silly 21st century people and their silly fossil fuels, but I'm not sure where carpets fit in, I don't think Big Carpet has ever been a thing?

System Shock Remake Released: The WC Connection (May 30, 2023)

Doesn't surprise me Howard Day is involved, he's done amazing retro art in the past. As for the game it's super high quality across the board, the UI is a bit iffy in places, but nothing like the original. I'm just astonished how good it is, definitely worth full price.

    Is it just me..

Yeah, space federations tend to have similarish logo designs, but it's cool how the colours match here.

Star Wars: Squadrons – “Hunted” CG Short Film

I assume it's one of those games where you'll have a lot of fun if you're with a coordinated premade and a lot less fun watching your team flying randomly around dying to things they shouldn't be dying to if you don't. Definitely interested though, and the short is amazing.

Kamekh, Shiraak & Snakeir... Separated at Birth?! (September 23, 2020)

This was pretty standard for that era, wasn't it? I believe the WCA Banshee, SWC Scimitar and the WCA Phantom were all based on the same basic model, for instance.

Snug as a Bug in a Rug (June 13, 2020)

Kinda surprised the Devastator and Longbow are so close on the Broadswords tail, I felt WC2 captured the bomber/flying fortress fantasy the best. The bombers in Armada and out felt too much like fat fighters, though I guess all the bombers were if you wanna be reductive about it. They were all...

How do the damage models differ

Other than WC2 I'm pretty sure you just shot them until they died, like you said. No idea how WC2 did its invulnerable shields, crazy high regen maybe?
