    F-104 vs. MiG-21

Mjr. Whoopass, you make some very good points. But I think that the F-104 was one of the first US fighters to carry the M-61 'Vulcan' gatling gun. This is probably the best gatling gun in the world, and has been in service for half of forever (the M2 .50 caliber being in service for forever) and...

    Airplanes!

No, the Navy fixed the problems with the design and have taken delivery of the first operational Ospreys. VMM-263 is training to become the first operation Osprey squadron. It was extremely successful in the final evals in June 2005.

    Airplanes!

Well, judging from the amount of people in most of Cpl. Hades pictures, it is very much open to the public. Cpl. Hades, I have two questions. What is that unmanned aircraft in pictures P7220262 thru P7220272, and what is the aircraft in P7220303?

    Airplanes!

Yeah, I meant their ad motto. I personally think that it is better than the US Army's current ad slogan, which is still "Army of One". What kind of jet are the Red Arrows flying? I think it is a AlphaJet, but I am probably wrong, since AlphaJets are pretty old.

    Airplanes!

WOW! Those are some awesome pictures! I wish they had airshows that good where I live. You are truely a lucky man, Cpl. Hades. BTW, Is "Be the best" the motto of the British Army, or just that regiment?

    F-35... destined for greatness?

I don't think it would ever have been in a Jane's book. Jane's is a world respected guide to any kind of equipment. If their is something you really need to know about a certain piece of equipment, pick up one of the 20 pound Jane's manuals at a library. They never speculate on anything, it's...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Yeah, but that was just a bunch of authors and others trying to make up a story. I think Tom Clancy and "Red Storm Rising" gave that rumor the biggest run.

    F-35... destined for greatness?

I think you're thinking of the YF-17 Cobra. There never was a F-19. The YF-17 flew against the F-16, lost, then was selected off-the-shelf by the Navy for the F/A-18. There wasn't a competition for the contract of the F/A-18, the Navy just bought it. I'd like to see that picture, if you...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

That's bound to happen, since the US has been selling military equipment to anti-Soviet governments and insurgencies (Yes, that included the taliban and good old Osama, back in the 1980's) for a very long time. So has almost every industial nations that produce weapons, it is a very good market...

    wingman's speaking

No, I think Loaf is right, Fox Four is the fighter's cannon. As seen below. It doesn't say "Fox Four", but logically, pilots would use four to warn they are firing their cannon. http://www.tailhook.org/AVSLANG.htm#F

    Just ordered a new laptop...

I have a question for the community, you all know alot about laptops. I need to get one in the next few weeks, and know nothing about the specs these days. My main requirements are: 1. It must be very tough, able to handle a few knocks, and alot of dust, for at least a year before cleaning...

    I Must Admit

I'm not a brainless sheep, either. But I have two tours in a active combat zone. I have witnessed the need for leadership, and the consquences of the lack of it. I have provided the leadership that, under fire, saved the lives of nine men, by leading my squad to destroy the enemy that pinned...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

No, no, I know he wasn't advocating it. I was stating that the any nation wouldn't be too smart to pay another nation to do what their own industry and economy could do. Sorry if that post was a little confusing.

    I Must Admit

Thank you Death. Took the words right out of my mouth. Hard to believe that at 39, he hasn't experienced enough real-life to believe in the necessity of leadership.

    I Must Admit

No, anyone who has served in a leadership role anywhere will tell you you must earn respect from your subordinates, and your boss. They may have to respect your job position, but you must earn their respect and confidence. Same goes anywhere else in the world.
