    WC4 difficulties

Why does Maniac need to survive? When I last played that mission Maniac hit a building while maintaining formation with me when I made a run on the SAM turret. He blew up but when I got back to the Lexington he'd been picked up and was ready for the next mission.

    No Afterburners in WC3?

    bingo.

    Rapier Dash

neat cockpit I'd love to see something like that in a game someday. Cockpits in flight-sims get so much love, I guess because they're actually, you know, *simulating* a real-world analogue...but can't a space-sim get just a *bit* of that love too?

    Best tactics against Vaktoth?

Try it on a cruiser sometime, the Arrow is suddenly the most deadly ship in space. Just slide by its rear-end at top speed five or six times with 75% power to guns. Blammo! Who needs torpedos? This may be why some rightly consider autoslide a bit unfair.

    Best tactics against Vaktoth?

well, In my game the Capslock key toggles autoslide, no holding required.

    Best tactics against Vaktoth?

It's a shelton slide, but its different then the way it worked in WC1 and 2. Its not nearly as 'artistic' as in the first two games. In WC3, you hit the Capslock key while traveling in an Arrow or Excalibur to 'lock' in your current heading and velocity. At that point you can rotate...

    Best tactics against Vaktoth?

What's up guys, I just finished Wc3 on Crazy difficulty a week ago, and like llanin said, a wing of Vaktoths are actually a respite on the higher difficulties, if we're talking Pre-Excalibur missions, because once you have an Excalibur almost nothing is a threat. Ok, on crazy difficulty the...

    Favorite car.

'87 Grand National - my Uncle had one when I was a kid - I might pick one up someday, there's actually a beat-up Turbo-T for sale across town, I should go look at it, but I hear it needs some major mechanical repair....

Space Sim First Look: Black Space (April 13, 2010)

Nice work! Looks beautiful - i don't own an iphone/ipod touch myself, but I hope Mr. House makes Bondles! And maybe introduces some new players to the space-sim genre in the process.

Mars by 2030 target - Obama

a 30 year goal, seems realistic - if the program was aggressively pursued and well funded throughout - but in this case 30 years seems like chumping out, it's just long enough that we don't have to see any progress in the immediate future, yet the admin can still point toward the horizon with a...

Find Your Favorite Furry Foe (April 3, 2010)

WC2 era Thrakkath - Kilrathi look the most natural when drawn and animated, the puppet suits in 3 and 4 certainly get an A+ for effort and were very well designed, but still unfortunately made the Kilrathi seem like a lumbering race of cripples. WC2 gave the Kilrathi enemies we'd shot up in WC1...

Hamill Talks Wing Commander Acting (April 8, 2010)

There's certain scenes where it seems pretty obvious...I wasn't really old enough to pick it up until Wing 4, and then I got paranoid and saw it everywhere - the opening scene in Tolwyn's office is funny 'cause both Hamill and Mcdowell are hardcore reading....mark seems to have pages on the...

    Kilrathi Saga sucks..(?)

Back to the Kilrathi saga vs. the DOS originals, I personally find the KS versions better because of the improved sound and music. I don't have an Mp-32, and the Munt derived emulations for DosBox sound wonkier IMO than KS's sometimes glitchy music. WC1 and 2 in general midi sound pretty nasty...

    Difficulty levels explained

True, I noticed that myself - some briefings were very vague, while others described things that you already knew were unneccesary/impossible game-engine wise .. in any case you just launch into space and do it 'your way.' awesome.

chances of future wing commander game(s)

Where did you hear that story about X-Wing? I always thought it was pretty natural that a group of guys who been developing several arcade-ish flight sims for lucasarts, with Battlehawks, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe and Their Finest Hour, would eventually turn to the Star Wars IP. It's...

    Difficulty levels explained

Interesting point of view, the gameplay is indeed an abstracted version of the fiction....still it is odd cap-ships became kill-able via guns again in WC3. I suppose Origin was trying to keep the amount of snazzy new 3D objects low, and thus multi-wing missions were out, which meant the...

    Difficulty levels explained

Yeah, boosting Wingmen AI and survivability would be great on the higher difficulty levels....but it's not borne out by my recent experiences with WCIII at least.... the thing that bothers me about crazy and nightmare in WC3 is that you feel like you're flying alone - as a result the only...

    Saving Flint on Crazy Diff

Yeah, I always set the waypoint for the victory - too much risk in getting the extra kills, by lathering I was referring to the vicious tongue-ing Blair can give Flint later on....I considered 'Tongue Lathing' as in worked over with a bizarre flesh lathe.... Both are plays on lashing...
