Probably yes, beacuse if you don´t defect at first time game plot will show you are wrong side. Killing the prisoners is not what goody goodies do. I don´t think defection in that situation is same as betray beacuse Blair is trying to prevent the war.

I think Jalthi would be too cumbersome to fly. I remember that in SM2 Dralthi resembled scimitar too much that i could enjoy flying it. That was probably beacuse it had slow mass drivers and way too small fuel tank. I really would like Gothri or Hriss. Those would really kick some ass!

HS should be more faster or quicker to lock that it could compete with IR. Speed diffrence is too small and in practice IRs lock from any angel is far more useful than extra speed. FFs and DF have their pros and cons but HS don´t have really any advances over IR other than cost that...

If it´s sick, its gonna be good. Co-writing with others could be fruitful. Missing Hobbes scene where he tells about being programmed to betray Blair always seemed like B5 ripoff... Also best tactic was to taunt enemies but that was over used in 4.123... so be careful not to just tell old jokes.

My choice would be second version of super ferret. WCP era armor, shields and power generator. Two fast firing tachyon or plasma cannons and some modern missiles like swarmers and twomaces

Now that you mentoned. I cound simulate it with my still experimental WC broadgame. Results could be only rough esimation beacuse broadgames rules are quite simple. I will check this. Major problem is find some frends to play it ;)
