    F-35... destined for greatness?

HA-HA! I guess that resolved that question, The N. Korean long-range missile, the Taepodong-2 failed 35 seconds into the flight and crashed. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&u=/ap/20060704/ap_on_re_as/nkorea_missile_13

You're right, I didn't specify that I was talking about the Versailles treaty. I think the reconstruction of the U-boat fleet was in secret, though. I think that the change to carriers was already well underway throughout the '30s, and the power of the carrier was well known by '41, since it...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Whoa, I really missed alot being in the field over the weekend. That was a very good reply Tigerhawk. That poor guy should go back to Dartmouth (which in itself says alot about why he said all that), and ask for his money back. Edit- I wish LOAF could have left him only long enough so I...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

That missile could reach partsof the US, like Alaska, and is claimed to reach the Hawaiian Islands and a small part of the Northwestern coast. But that missile still can't carry a big payload to anywhere. And there are Patriot PAC-3 missiles in Japan now, Navy cruisers in the Sea of Japan, and...

Actually, most nations held on to their battleships until the beginning of WWII. But production of battleships was shifting more and more to carriers, which weren't as tightly regulated. Germany, which was the main aggressor in WWI abided by the treaty until after the rise of Hitler in the...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

From what I could research, that designation was simply passed up, in going from the F-18 to the F-20. One reason, (the best of the ones I read) is that Northrup asked for the F-20 designation, and the Air Force never went back to F-19.

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Sorry, I must have ducked when I read that, because the sarcasm went right over my head. Yeah, they said the American tanks would be slaughtered by the tank hordes of Iraq, the SAMs would knock our planes out of the air. This was before we knew a M-2 Bradley could penetrate T-72's frontal...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Yeah, any plane can be converted into a 'bomb truck', but unless they have the software and hardware to accurately release the bombs, they're no better than an old B-17. The US Navy did that with the F-14D, but the critical part is, you still need an attack aircraft to designate the target with...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Come on, give me a break! That thing doesn't have the capability to lift a gopher, let alone a nuclear warhead. All that missile (I would refer to it's proper name, but I can't remember it) All it can do is fly a really long way. The N. Koreans still need to refine it and improve it to carry a...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

The problem with this is that the Indian's fleet of Jaguars (which is a ground attack aircraft) Mirages, and MIGs is that ALL of these fighters are over 25 years old, and completely outclassed by any US fighter in service. The only exception is the SU-31 series which they (like China) don't have...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Yeah, a T-55 type tank, or any older model will die quite easily to the Thunderbolt's cannon, but many nations have updated after watching the US Army and Air Force rip the Iraqi army to shreds in '91. But it has been 15 years since then. Many new tanks have significant frontal glacis armor now...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Yeah... well I'm in the US Army, so that means it is the M-1 series. That is the only series of tanks used by the US Army. I've been on M-1A1s, M-1A1 HCs, and M-1A1 AIM tanks. Haven't been on A2 series since OSUT (Tanker's 4-month basic course)

Sorry, I don't talk about specific capabilities or faults of my equipment. All I'll say is I can take a one down.

    F-35... destined for greatness?

    T. C. Cgi got it right, you have to turn faster than the missile so it overshoots and loses it's lock on you. AAA is all about speed, being able to go so fast the guns can't stay in front of you. The technique is to aim in front of the aircraft and let it fly into the bullets. It's called the...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Yes, I would miss the 30mm cannon, but on a modern battlefield, the SAM and AAA (anti-aircraft artillery) threat is too high for a slow, unmanouverable plane like the Thunderbolt. The missiles it carried were always a bigger threat than that cannon, and the JSF can carry those as well. ...

    F-35... destined for greatness?

Chris is right, if there is a significant threat of enemy fighter activity, the F-35 would be escorted by F-15s or F-22s. The F-35 is also supposed to be able to hold it’s own in aerial combat, but that’s not it’s primary role. It was developed to replace a whole slew of aircraft, among...

    F-104 vs. MiG-21

It don't matter what the stats are for a fighter, the only thing that matters is the pilot of it, the level of training he has had and his experience with that particular plane. An Expert pilot in a F-4 Phantom could down a novice pilot in a F-22. It's the pilot that matters, not the machine.
