If I understand correctly, you've consolidated the turrets down to one type? I'm curious how that works. The two kinds in the base game have different ranges of motion. By making them all ball turrets have you rotated the Galaxy's top and bottom turrets to cover the same area the old Galaxy...

Both very good points.. In the Doolittle raid, the carrier itself didn't get involved unlike what I know of what happened with the Tarawa. Then again, the Enola Gay was all alone unlike how it sounds things happened during the Temblor bomb run.. So yeah, as before I don't know :D

No one is forcing you to install an unofficial patch. We can try to help if something goes wrong but we can't gaurantee it. If you install something unsupported, don't expect much. While the patch's author may be able to help, that isn't us.

First thing to do would be to look at the URL and wonder what sfdevcenter might be. Try going to http://sfdevcenter.org/. There, SF is revealed to stand for Stellar Frontier.

In the upgrades screen, when you click on an item (including radars) it gives you a description and stats, such as how wide the tracking cone is, and whether it has IFF etc. It's down at the bottom of the screen.

Read the descriptions and find out. Could be that it has more colors (don't know off the top of my head) but at any rate more expensive radars have a slightly longer range and a larger cone wherein you can get a missile lock.
