Wing Commander 2 Deluxe Edition sound question

The only "speech" in WC2 is from your wingmen during missions and from the characters during a select few cut scenes. Most of the cut scenes during the game - including every mission briefing - have no speech.

So much for the importance of the intarweb...

I don't know... All I can think about whenever I hear the title is how similar a premise it is to an old Saturday Night Live skit that originally aired many years ago. :)

"excuse Me Sir, Did You Say The Victory?"

Especially when you consider the fact that, according to the "official" version of events, Blair wasn't even on the Concordia at the time it was destroyed. He was in a hospital, grounded, suffering from severe burns he received while fighting in the Battle of Earth. Even if he had been...

    Classic Gaming via DosBox

Actually, I don't think I've ever tried installing Fate of Atlantis on XP. It's been years since I played that game, and I guess I just assumed it wouldn't work. I'll have to give it a try.

    Classic Gaming via DosBox

I’ve been playing through the older Wing Commander games on DosBox, and I’m amazed by how well they run on there. I’m actually at the point where I’m more interested in running older games on DosBox – games I haven’t played in years - than I am in going out in buying new ones. I’m in the...

Star Trek: Legacy To Feature Major Talents

I used to play those games all the time, back in the day. I even have the "Limited CD-ROM Collectors edition" of Judgement Rites. Sometime after I've finished re-playing all the Wing Commander games and both of the Crusader games, I might see if I can get 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites...

What's Your Real Opinion About the Movie?

The movie isn't my favorite Wing Commander product. But I think it's important to keep it in mind that it could have been worse. For example, the movie could have revolved around a laughing Kilrathi who hypnotizes the crew of the Tiger's Claw, and then takes them on a journey to the center...

Special Operations 2 Help needed with Canewdon 3-D

I'm currently playing through SO2, but I keep running into a problem with mission 3-D in the Canewdon system. If I understand correctly, I'm supposed to be able to land on the Grimalkin once I make it to Nav 3. However, as soon as I arrive at Nav 3, my auto pilot resets itself to Nav 2. I...

Your Favorite "Kilrathi War" Wing Commander game?

I just finished replaying WC2, thanks to DosBox... And I have to say, that felt like one of the least rewarding parts of the game. Jazz, for someone who was supposed to be such a hot shot pilot, just did not put up much of a fight. Indeed, I'm not so sure he ever even hit me. It's been...

BREAKING NEWS: Wing Commander for the PSP! (August 14, 2006)

This makes me happy. So very, very, very happy. I personally have always preferred playing games on my PC. So, I think that I'll stick with DosBox for right now. Still, it's always fantastic news when a Wing Commander game is being sold again. It gives me hope. I'd love to see an idea...

Star Trek: Legacy To Feature Major Talents

Really? I thought (from your proflie) that you lived in Texas. If memory serves, Rockville is just around the corner from Bethesda, MD. My favorite restaraunt has a location in Bethesda. It's a place called Mongolian Barbeque. Definately worth your time to check the place out, if you...

    WingCommander 2 Voice pack whereabouts

You can get WC2 Deluxe Edition for an extremely cheap price if you search for it long enough. There was a guy on here who purchased his for only around 89 cents. Not bad for a CD-ROM version of the original game, both expansion packs, and the speech pack. Plus, it means you'll have a backup...

This game is still alive but EA wants to kill it

Right, that makes sense if you go by what the WCP manual says on page 18: Basically, the scenario that the WCP manual seems to lay out is: 1) Kilrathi encounter Mantu. Mantu are paranoid, and would more or less prefer to be left alone. 2) Kilrathi begin attacking civilian Mantu ships...

James A. Van Allen, Discoverer of Earth-Circling Radiation Belts, Is Dead at 91

Not really related to Wing Commander in any way, but still of interest to those who follow space exploration: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/10/science/space/10vanallen.html?_r=1&ref=obituaries&oref=slogin

This game is still alive but EA wants to kill it

And, if I recall correctly, Confed seems to think that the Mantu aren't actually much of a threat. Indeed, I seem to recall Confed Intell saying that the Mantu have been "mythologized" by the Kilrathi. In reality, the Mantu are simply a race of explorers who didn't take kindly to Kilrathi...

    WC3 Hobbes turret

I'm not sure, but I think by WC3 Confed was using fighters with computerized turrets.

What's Your Real Opinion About the Movie?

It's a nice idea, but I think I prefer it when the "non-game" elements of the Wing Commander universe avoid portraying things that happen in games. For one thing, it can create problems. I love Freedom Flight. But the whole sequence with Hunter assisting the defecting Fralthi presents...

    The Hardest Missions!

No kidding. The first time I played WC2, I think I went through several missions in ships with turrets before I realized that they'd fire on enemies without me controlling them directly. Confed needs to train their turret crews better. :)

What's Your Real Opinion About the Movie?

I hate to break it to you, but we've checked your account. You don't have the credits to buy a better plotline... :)

    The Hardest Missions!

Probably we just have different flying styles. The Epee wasn't my favorite, but I'd take it over a Broadsword any day. I don't like ships that move slow, and I especially don't like ships that lack afterburners. I prefer to be able to move around, and I honestly just feel out of place...
