    Wing Commander Questions

There are two possibilities here. 1) As Mace pointed out, an S&R mission isn't meant to be a combat mission. Had he been temporarily "on loan" to Iceman's carrier, it's likely that whoever the Wing Commander of that ship was wouldn't have been as accommodating with him as Angle was on the...

    Wing Commander Questions

Why is this such a big hole? In Wing Commander II, Blair - still an Insystem Security officer - ends up flying numerous combat missions off the Concordia, due to a series of circumstances that led to him being on that ship when it had to jump. At no point before his name is cleared did he...

    Wing Commander Questions

This issue has been discussed rather thoroughly, so you might want to check some of the older threads. The best explanation I've heard is that: 1) Hawk and Blair never served together on the Tiger's Claw 2) Iceman survived the destruction of the Tiger's Claw, because he was out on patrol...

This game is still alive but EA wants to kill it

Having just played through the orginal Privateer, I'm also left wondering the same thing about the Steltek. Have they ever encountered the Nephilim? If so, what's their relationship?

    WC3 Novelization

Did someone edit my earlier post? I only posted about the WC IV novelization being different than the game. I never wrote anything about plot elements (although it is a valid point).

    WC3 Novelization

If you dislike a few missing missions, avoid the WC IV novelization. Lots of things are different than they were in the game.

    WC1 Music

DOSBox does take some time to get used to, but it's well worth it in the end. Try to keep in mind that it's not actually DOS... It's a program that basically tricks your old programs into thinking it's DOS. Therefore, you need to tell DOSBox which drives you want it to recognize as your...

    WC1 Music

Probably your best bet would be to check with EBay, or some similar website. Also... You said you played Wing Commander before, correct? Do you legally own a copy of the DOS version of WC I? If so, you might want to look into downloading DOSBox to get the Dos version up and running again...

    Few WC Sketches

Those look really good. Do some more for us, please. :) I wish the WC comic book mentioned in the news update about these drawings had been completed. I've always thought Wing Commander would make a good comic book...

Suggestions on Order of Play of WC Games?

I'd probably go with the DOS versions of the earlier games. I'd even check on EBay and buy WC II: Deluxe Edition, which runs on DOS. You can purchase it for fairly cheap. Someone who posted on here a few months back even got his copy for less than $1.00. My understanding is that getting...

"excuse Me Sir, Did You Say The Victory?"

Okay, thanks for pointing that out. It's been years since I last read one of the game novelizations, so sometimes my memory is a little fuzzy on some of that stuff.

    Classic Gaming via DosBox

I actually went to install Heart of China last night. But I ran into an unexpected problem. The floppy disks I have for that game are 5.25. And I no longer have a drive on my computer for those. I had a good laugh at myself. What a putz! This should have been something I thought of...

"excuse Me Sir, Did You Say The Victory?"

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Blair received severe burns from the missile hit that he took. But I can't seem to find any source that says that, not even the encyclopedia on this site. All I can find for sure is that he was "grounded for six months" after he took a missile hit...

"excuse Me Sir, Did You Say The Victory?"

Good point. I hadn't considered that. I guess that means all we know is that "A Treacherous Hero" - either how it was written or the general public's reaction to it - probably helped goad Blair into staying in the military. I'd certainly be interested in knowing more about what that book...

I'm not 100% sure, because I've never used virtual PC myself (only heard about it on the news update on this website). However, I think I read somewhere that you do need to own a copy of the OS you want to emulate. I wonder if EBay would have a copy of Windows 95 available?

"excuse Me Sir, Did You Say The Victory?"

In Blair's bio in the Wing Commander Prophecy Guide, "A Treacherous Hero" is described as being "sensationalist." Indeed, it's cited as probably being the reason Blair decided to stay in the military rather than calling it quits and returning to civilian life. I suppose it's true that we...

Have you tried Microsoft's Virtual PC? I don't know how well it works for running Win 95/98 games, but it can be legally downloaded for free now. There was news update about it on this website only a few months ago. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx
