    The Oxford missions

No, I'm not using auto-tracking. Je refuse! Yes, I used this strategy in the original to great effect. I can't seem to get it to work here, though. Even when I appear to be dead-on target, 80% of my shots don't hit. Also, opponents seem to react quicker and even with a rapidly firing weapon...

    Minor issue with mouse

Try running the setup and changing mouse AWAY from the "drag" option. I just tried it to see if it resolved one of the issues I'm having with using a mouse (instead of the old days where I used a stick), namely returning to "center" quickly instead of having to slide the mouse halfway across a...

    The Oxford missions

Are you serious??? I did read the other thread on this - and commented on what I believe is a flaw in your formula, which skews your results towards low-powered weapons (such as the laser). Anyway, since I'm completely stuck on Oxford mission 3, I decided I'd give these fancy lasers of...

    where's the f'n patch?

I haven't been in the situation myself, but have you tried saving the game on the station you managed to land on, then QUIT the game and restart privateer (which also currently loads your game, providing you didn't go get beatch-slappen, but quit right after saving). This resets the world, in my...

    The Oxford missions

Well, that can be solved quite easily by killing half a dozen of them before taking the mission ;-). That's what I did (not that it's helping much). The drayman moves plenty for me! I tried a new tactic - I wanted to play turret for the drayman, just lying still right on top of it. No go. It...

    Two newbie questions

I've seen the term "fixer" used quite a bit now and I must admit that I had no idea what it was. I still don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it's the people sitting at the tables in the bars? maybe? What are "fixers" and why are they called that? ;-)

    The Oxford missions

Yeah, I managed that *once* as well. But all kills were by ramming them. And this was actually with the Demon. I find that I'm not fast / agile enough to ram them on purpose with the Centurion. I consider autotracking a cheat. It wasn't in the original, so I won't use it... might as well hack...

    The Oxford missions

If you find out, let me know :( I've tried the mission about 20 times now (with break to acquire and outfit a Centurion, to see if that would help) with no luck. I haven't even come close. Sometimes, the demons take down the drayman in close to 60 seconds real time! Other times, it takes 5...

    The Oxford missions

I have to ask this... what do you want in a game? I mean, when playing a game such as Privateer, what makes it *fun* for you? What makes it thrilling? With regards to AI and cheating, I would personally prefer two adjustments: One for AI and one for cheats. Then I could set the AI as high as...

    Interesting bug with weapons ranges...

I tested the weapon ranges on a Drayman and they appear to work just fine as is. I could hit drain the Draymans shields at a range of just over 4000 meters. The listed range is 424m, so while it does look like a digit is cut off in the description, it doesn't appear to affect the actual weapons...

    The Oxford missions

If you were friends with the Kilrathi, why was it a problem to have them around? Just ignore them. I do ;-) As for retros and pirates, what I've found useful is to launch from Oxford *without* taking the mission and kicking their butts. Then land and take the mission. That should give you the...

    glitch i found / suggestion

An ejected pilot or a piece of cargo. If you bump into either of these, they will move *very* fast.

    glitch i found / suggestion

chatbot, look around for spiritplumber's "patch". It supposedly adds new systems and other content. This is taking it away from the pure Privateer Remake, idea, but that seems like what you are looking for. With regards to your speed issue: You may have accidentally targetted something and...

    Usability stuff

Talking about save-games... it would also be sweet to have a (system) timestamp for each savegame. I have a tendency to make way to many save-games and not remember which is newer.

    The Proper Remake?

While admittedly not identical to the original, only the best one is actually providing you with any benefit - the other is only taking up space.

Pitched battle with one *HELL* of a payout!

Is "difficulty" money (or ones total value or whatever) based? In the original, it was based solely on kills. It certainly seemed that way, anyway. I remember just flying around in the tarsus killing pirates and retros. The game quickly got to the point, where I basically couldn't get through...

    Key bindings that don't work

No, that should not be possible. There is no difference between the alt key on a Danish keyboard and a US keyboard. There is also no difference with the numbers. I actually have a US keyboard that I can move over from my Linux box... think I'll try that later just to be sure.

This would explain a few "problems" I've been having...

The bug that forced me to start again

What happens if you abort one of the missions, save and then quit the game. The world should then be in a reset state when you next start the game.

    Privateer is skippy in XP

Yeah, I get that too. It's called not having enough memory ;-) The worst thing is that it can also happen sometimes a while after the jump (new ships jump in and their models/textures aren't in memory). This could be handled more gracefully, I think. At least the game freezes *completely*...
