The best solution for playing old Wing Commander games: get a good ol' DOS or Win95 PC and have fun like the good old times...the only problem is to get those goddam old pieces of junk (aka PCs) to run...as I try at the moment...^^

I have some strange problem with the Vdmsound solution from Angelli. I made the file as he described it and ran it. then a dox screen appears and it tells me: "not enough files available. make sure that the following line appears ion your config.sys file: FILES=25" what the hell...?? should...

I agree with that pal, and I would say that the hellcat V could be the most average fighter og the whole Wing Commander Series...I mean you can fly it in 2 games...no other fighter (expect the rapier in different versions) could be flyin in more then one game.

do you know some programs for extracting/manipulating sounds?

so what is your favourite gun/missile? My is the tachion-cannon.(wc3/4 version) -heavy damage -cool coler (white) -nice sound (I can't really describe it here^^) my favourite missle is the pilum FF, cuz it's so easyy to handle, makes good damage and the design of the missle looks good, too.

why the shrike? its a big bad bomber...not average... I would also see the good ol' scim as the most average fighter. medium firepower with mass driver medium shields and armor and medium speed/acceleration... for the later Wing Commander games it would be the Hellcat for nearly the same...
