    Crew Sizes and the Exeter

Of course in End Run, the Tarawa's hangar deck also doubled as a hanger deck, in order to fit the Marine transports in. And whenever the relative merits of various craft across the different WC games are discussed, we do indeed give fighter compliments. ...I'm not helping, am I?

    Democracy dies ?

What hurt Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Ireland was being in the Euro, and therefore being forced to subordinate their monetary and fiscal policies to the ECB, which set interest rates and so on to cater for Europe's most productive economies - Germany and its satellites (Austria...

So was there anything to the rumors, or...?

What I'd like to see (and I know I never will, because what I'm describing is rather less mass-market and somewhat harder to make than the game we'll actually get) is a game that actually takes the name Wing Commander seriously. We're in command of a fighter wing? Right then, let's do that. WC3...

    The Guide...

I'd be happy to upload my original files rather than using the youtube ones (I record at 1152x864 and encode to h.264/AAAC in an mp4 container), but when I click the "upload files" link on the wiki I'm limited to 12Mb which is about an order of magnitude too small for my videos. Is there...

    The Guide...

The first of my Episode 5 pages is up here: https://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Episode_5_-_Winning_Mission_11_-_First_Encounters, which ought to give people a rough idea of what I'm intending guide pages to look like once I've finished going through them. What I've not yet figured out how to do is...

    Problems? Post them here...

Very minor bug: in "Too Much Company", the Landreich fighters have two Sierra 4s and three Tango 4s. I'm guessing that somebody forgot to rename the fighters after copypasting to get six of them? A bigger problem with the same mission: Freyers' warning about running torpedoes can get buried in...

    Why don't torpedoes count?

I'm wrong, torpedoes do count (I hadn't fired off all of my FF missiles in that mission and thought I had). I'll have to do some tests as to whether or not capships count for the killboard in WC3 and 4 when I get on to Let's Playing those games once I'm done with Standoff (also, I kind of need...

    Why don't torpedoes count?

I can't remember if this is a Standoff-only thing of it if also happens in Secret Ops, but either way you guys are probably more likely to know the answer than anybody else, and it's kind of bugging me. Why don't torpedoes a) count as weapons fired in the debrief? or b) give you kills? - for...

    Quick End Run Question

Being in drydock for a year *probably* means that the Gettysburg would have been decommissioned during the False Armistice, or, if it wasn't, blown up by Jukaga's cruisers when he hit the shipyards orbiting Luna, but there's no way to confirm that of course.

The cats can't have this many ships!

No, there's six Snakeirs total, which is two too many - I've been keeping count. You can destroy one in Lashing Out, two in Torpedo Delivery, one (assuming you got the Hakaga in Torpedo Delivery) in Wild Weasel, one in Sacrifice, and if you do all of that there'll still be one left in Big Damn...

The cats can't have this many ships!

That's certainly what's going on - unfortunately, the game doesn't check to see if you also destroyed the two Snakeirs in the mission where you can destroy the Hakaga, so if you get a clean sweep you end up facing the carriers you already destroyed in Sirius again in Sol.

The cats can't have this many ships!

You know, after playing through Episode 5 for the sake of recording (and also taking notes for the Guide), I'm beginning to agree with Popsicle. Specifically, what they can't have this many of is Snakeir-class carriers. Thrakhath's invasion plan laid out in Fleet Action calls for the Fifth and...

    Confederation Fleet Tactics

In general, it can be safely assumed that naming conventions make relatively little sense if you try and straightjacket them into being based on what the class names are. This is because the primary naming convention actually used was, as LOAF has pointed out, things which were near Origin's...

Claws Bloodied and Victorious (October 2, 2011)

My single worst encounter (with an honourable mention to facing down Standoff's Vatari in a Stiletto, which is not eligible for the award but is the only fight in which I happily accept the enemy's decision to retreat) with Kilrathi forces isn't any of those - it's the Dralthi horde you...

    Arjak's Combat Log

Don't sweat the destroyers, kid. I know old Bossman likes to keep you worried - thinks it's more likely you'll come back if you are - but what he didn't tell you was that the Ralari is practically a museum piece. It's a relic of the days back before McAuliffe, when nobody seriously thought that...

    CS Tiger Claw's battlegroup?

The TCS Concordia is frequently seen in the company of one of her two escorting Gilgamesh-class destroyers, the TCS William Tell, in WC2. The suggestion that the fact that the Concordia's having a battleship's armament means she doesn't need an escort is a little silly given that historical...

EA Reveals "Redlime" (September 12, 2011)

Disappointing, though I believe expected. The fact that the new Syndicate is not a squad-based tactical combat game does not particularly bode well for a new Wing Commander being a joystick-controlled space flight sim, either, though the more descriptive name in the latter's case (and the...

    The Vatari

Well, I've never actually used WCPEdit to look at ship stats and so on before today. I did just about manage to find the files and have a look through, and I more or less understood most of it, but I'm mystified by the armament.

BREAKING NEWS: Is a New Wing Commander Already In the Works? (September 8, 2011)

Good news, I'd agree, but the question mark I'd throw up against that is that it would seem very difficult, even if you pulled a George Lucas and ignored all the licensed novels, to make a Wing Commander game with that cast in their established roles. That cast are now all fifteen years older...

    The Vatari

My recording run has just reached First Encounters, the eponymous event within which being the meeting with the wonderful sleek, evil Vatari superfighters. Now, I can understand why the Standoff technical database has all of the ship's capabilities listed as "unknown", but you guys wrote the...
