A Modest Proposal: Saving Mr. LaFong (April 1, 2017)

This is a very compelling argument for why we should consider LaFong as the player character in WC1!

    Catscratch and Vagabond

The novel surprised me in a couple of ways. For one, prior to his defection, Blair came off as a pretty weak character. From his assignment as the Lexington's wing commander, Blair seemed to play only a minor role in flight operations. Eisen had full authority over missions. In fact, Blair did...

    Catscratch and Vagabond

Any idea why Ohlander cut both characters? From the perspective of novel, it doesn't appear that they defected with Maniac, Blair, and Eisen.

    Catscratch and Vagabond

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew why Ohlander and Forstchen decided to more-or-less leave Vagabond and Catscratch out of the WC4 novel. Both essentially had one scene in the book. Moreover, Blair alludes to the fact that neither defected before he torpedoed the bow of the...

    Simply amazing....

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

That's all well and good, but it still doesn't take into account *the evidence*. Blair specifically calls his service the Flight branch of the NAVY. He graduated from the TCNSA Hilthros. He held the naval rank of Lieutenant Commander around the time of his trial (WCKS manual). Of course the Navy...

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

No one is debating that pilots had army-style ranking. What is being debated is that the Space Force was a separate service (not part of the Navy). All of the evidence points to the Space Force as a branch of the Navy during the War.

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

This definitely makes the most sense, especially since Blair told Flash that he was receiving his rank in the Flight Branch of the Navy in the Wing Commander 3 Novel. Also, after WC3, the Space Force receives new uniforms. Blair is considered part of the TCSF reserves in the beginning of WC4...

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

The armor does not necessarily have to be bolted on. I am merely stating that whatever the process entails, armor in the Wing Commander universe is replaced/repaired incredibly quickly and easily. It does not require weeks or months in a shipyard.

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

I concede the point. We can infer a great deal more about how armor works from privateer. For one, when you sustain damage, your armor can be quickly repaired or replaced (a feature that would be incredibly vital in the context of the Kilrathi War). I'll agree that military ships may have...

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

No, sir. I'm specifically countering the claim that light/heavy related to mass by showing that the heavy carrier is actually lighter than the light carrier. If you look at my original post, it mirrors much of what you are saying here in that the designation more corresponds to what kind of...

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

*Commander* Patricia Drake was CAG of the Midway. Just as a nitpick, I don't think any of the carrier wing commanders are ever called CAG other than Drake. I think Angel at one point is called 'commander flight group' at some point. Also, we know that Halcyon commanded the Claw during at least...

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

What is your source? As far as WC1 is concerned, everyone, including the CO of the Tiger's Claw holds army-style ranks and are part of the TCSN. Remember, Blair graduated from the Terran Confederation Naval Space Academy, Hilthros. As far as the early material goes, there's no mention whatsoever...

    Terran Confederation Space Navy

My point is that it doesn't appear that you change your commission at all. It seems that all hold a TCSN commission. What changes is one's posting. If a pilot is posted to a Space Force unit, then that pilot is in the Space Force for the length of their tour. Thus, Blair is always a commissioned...
