    Probs With All Wc Games

re: Exception 13 I run P1 and P2 from a Dos bootdisk ( not via WinXP) and don’t get an exception 13 error. Configuring the sound for P1 was hell. I had to work my way through nearly ALL the possible combinations of cards, IRQs, DMAs and PORTs. Using Music Card: Ad Lib, Speech Card: Sound...

get privateer 2 working on XP

re privateer 2 on XP Try looking at the installation requirements for P2. There is a sticker on my box which reads as follows: “MS-DOS MODE SOFTWARE. COMPATIBLE WITH MS-DOS 5.X OR HIGHER OR WINDOWS 95. WDOWS 95 REQUIRES A FULLY CONFIGURED MS-DOS MODE ENVIRONMENT WITH DOS SOUND/VIDEO/MOUSE...

    Probs With All Wc Games

A while back I got a P111 850 with an onboard ESSTECH Allegro 1 sound chip. Being a diehard Privateer fan, I ran into sound problems. My operating system is Win XP Pro, so I went the easy way and used a dos boot disk. It took forever to find the right drivers on the net. The official site -...

    Callsigns

Mines a combination of the Danish word for dad and the English word zone. It was origionally intended as a not so subtle hint to my son to keep his greasy paws to himself - i.e. away from my computer. Never worked. However, I think it works fine for space games. Believe me I do! OK, don't...

    Lord Of The Rings

I first read The Lord of the Rings when I was 15. A couple of decades later, I bought the books and read them again. For me, Tolkiens’ mastery was that he was able to describe in sufficient detail for my own fantasy to take over, and yet not so much detail as to limit it. I went to see the movie...

Privateer2 - How do you land?

I have the Win95 version that came with manuals. If you have a manual called "As it is in HEAVEN, a guide to space travel", Try looking at page 11. The one that I have covers the issue.

    Privateer help

Mystery muppet Please excuse the oblique references. You may have felt that I spoke on your behalf also, and this was my way of giving you free license to “Flame” me. Flak:- Usage- giving or receiving some / a lot / plenty etc. Origin – presumably the first or second world war...

    Privateer help

Johnl12 you seem to have misunderstood my post. There was no intention to denigrate your work. In the short time I have been on this site, I have gained the clear impression that your input is highly regarded. In my book, wizards are people who wave their wands and do magic, while the rest...

    Privateer help

These pleas for help tend to pop up on a regular basis. Perhaps there should be a “flag” beside “FAQS” etc with “basic help”? Failing this, those in need could knock on the wizards´door? Well spotted Mystery muppet. Johnl12 is a “wizard “ on the tech stuff, but the keyboard seems to baffle...

    Problem with Privateer

I´m no expert on sound cards, but I would suggest the following: 1 Find out the make and model of your sound card 2 Go to the manufacturers web site and look for DOS drivers 3 If you draw a blank, send them an e-mail asking about DOS drivers 4 Search the web. WWW.driverguide.com has quite a...

    An announcement

Don´t leave in anger, sorrow, or despair. Take a break and contemplate. Those who veer away from the well-trodden norm make life interesting for the boring farts who fear to do so. It may be tough on the fringe, but it´s never dumb. If you want to talk about being dumb , I don´t even know how...

Definitive Privateer 1 on XP statement... please

The long – and complete – answer to your problem lies in the “tech stuff”. The short answer is that if your hard disk is NTFS, DOS can´t see it. My setup – WinXP and DOS boot disk – works because my hard disk is still FAT 32.

Definitive Privateer 1 on XP statement... please

I had the same problem – WinXP and a craving to play P1 again. Tried a DOS6 bootdisk and could only see A: drive. Finally made a bootdisk ( Rescue Diskette ) from my old Win98 pc and lo and behold my hard disk was visible. I had to manually change the lines for my cd-rom though ( different make...

WC-Star Trek, how can they be linked?

Anshuman, what you are suggesting sounds like moving both your lover and your mistress in under the same roof. They may not be compatible! However you asked for help, so I´ll try. A word of caution :- I am not familiar with the star trek series ( games that is ) so it´s possible that I´ll put my...

    Where to begin.

If you copy your game to your hard disk ( re. Mystery Muppet ) you will at least eliminate one variable. There are other bonuses:- faster game loads, no noise from the cd-drive and no problems getting enough memory ( you don´t need to load drivers for your cd-drive). Point of interest Mystery...
