The Landreich "Republic" vs. The Union of Border Worlds

Given their willingness to fight the numerically and technologically superior Confed and Black Lance forces, it would be hard to argue that the Border Worlds pilots would be less courageous than their FRL counterparts. Pilot quality is a bit more variable, but balancing out the unfinished new...

    Cruiser Confusion

The other point to keep in mind is that the Border Worlders weren't trying to fight a war against Confed. They were trying to *prevent* a war. Everything that they put up against Confed was what they could scrape up on virtually no notice (WC4 was compressed into 2 odd weeks) for a fight they...

    Cruiser Confusion

Fleet Action and End Run have cruisers and destroyers firing torpedoes at each other. While torps can of course be shot down by point defences, the sheer number of them a capital ship can fire (the destroyers in Fleet Action can salvo a dozen, for example) and their destructive potential makes...

The Landreich "Republic" vs. The Union of Border Worlds

I don't think there would have been a mass defection if Tolwyn had made his case for war. In that case, the war declaration would have come from the properly elected government of the Confederation, and most of Confed's forces would have honoured that. I'm sure that there would have been some...

The Landreich "Republic" vs. The Union of Border Worlds

This was after Confed forces had invaded Border Worlds territory, fired on Border Worlds fighters without warning, attacked a Border Worlds military base on a planet, kidnapped a scientist and summarily executed both Border Worlds military and medical personnell, don't forget. (TPOF novel.) As I...

    Marines in Wing Commander

Fleet Action does mention the existence of a Confed Army, but only in passing. In one of the bar scenes, it's mentioned that almost everyone there was wearing a Fleet pin, the fowled anchor insignia of the Marines, or an Army star. As I understand it, the Army does exist in WC, but no-one's ever...

The Landreich "Republic" vs. The Union of Border Worlds

I think Blair's assesment of the Border Worlds military in the TPOF novel was that it was strong enough to be considered a threat by Confed, but lacked the power projection ability to fight a war on Confed's scale. (I'm going entirely be memory here, though. My WC novels are still in the post...

    Border Worlds Fighters

Is that in the canon somehere, though? I know that squadrons in some fan writing (including HTL) have been *using* it as an interceptor, but I always got the impression that it was designed as a general fighter. Best, Raptor

    Border Worlds Fighters

Hey guys. Been a long time since I posted here, but this thread looked so interesting that I just couldn't resist. Needless to say, I'm on Quarto's side of the debate. :) I don't agree that the Border Worlds fighters are like the converted Ferret in End Run. If I recall correctly, the comment...

    Aces board?

To be honest, I think the bickering is a bit of a red herring as to the club's decline. The Aces have *always* had feuds and factions, and I remember some showdowns in the club's heyday that make the current disagreements look pretty tame. As for the board, I agree, it's only a small part of...

    Aces board?

Well, there are still a few people involved in writing stories and co-ordinating PBMs and the like. :) LOAF, what do you think about converting the HTL solsector forum to an Aces forum? It's not had any activity since HTL chapters are posted directly to the main page. To ensure that...

    I'm not dead yet!

Darn, that means I'm going to have to pick another unit to die heroically in the line of duty. :) [Scans the very short list of surviving units.] Eeenie, Meenie, Minee... Best, Raptor

    Est Prolouge Release

Of course, any one who's got time on their hands can sharpen up their flying skills on Prophecy/SO. The biggest handicap I had when playing UE was that I hadn't played WC for months. That, along with the much harder missions in UE (I assume Standoff will be similar?) lead some serious wallopings.

    What is Holding the line?

No, but you can download each of the four completed story arcs in one go. Just click on the download link (at the bottom of the chapter listings for each arc) and you'll get a zip file with all the stories. Best, Raptor

    fighters on destroyers

    The TCS Coventry also carried a half squadron of fighters in the HOTT novel. (Five fighters, since Confed used squadrons of ten during the war.}

    wc romance

There wasn't much Tolwyn could do about that. It would have been a little hard for to bust a guy who had just been cleared of treason, shot down the heir to the Kilrathi throne *and* given Confed control of Vega sector. Besides, if I understand it correctly, doesn't the heavier penalty for...

    What is Holding the line?

Holding The Line is a collabrative writing effort involving about two dozen writers from the Wing Commander Aces Club. It covers the battles on the frontier to keep the Nephilim away from our homeworlds long enough for the Midway to close the wormhole gate in Wing Commander Prophecy. You can...

    New Capship

I thought the Arleigh Burke class were Aegis carrying destroyers, while the Aegis cruisers were Ticonderoga class? Still, it's been ages since I read up on this stuff. Best, Raptor

    What is the Space Force?

BTW, there are still Navy pilots as late as End Run and Fleet Action. Jason Bondarevsky was Navy rather than Space Force. Best, Raptor

    wc romance

I would say that that its generally frowned upon and probably against regulations (I believe Jason says something to that effect in Fleet Action, when he rules out a romance with Sparks if they were going to serve together again after the Armistice), but doesn't attract the same penalties that...
