It seemed to me that after Wing Commander II, when you started interacting with the captain of a ship, that the Space Forces rank of captain was never used. I assumed this was to prevent confusion with naval captains, who are higher-ranking.

Truth. I was pretty disappointed when I actually got to fly the fighter in the game. The manual and the dialog built it up as the greatest thing ever, but once I got to fly it, it wasn't as good as the Raptor I was just flying. Oh well.

I love the Kilrathi Saga. After I bought it I never went back to my normal wing Commander I or II.

I had similar feelings when first seeing Prophecy on my Diamond Monster 3D. I was amazed by the missiles. I loved 3DFX, and probably only got rid of that Diamond Monster 3D a year ago. I still use a Glide wrapper when playing Prophecy.

I'm pretty sure the original disk version of the game had the same version of this conversation as the Kilrathi Saga. So perhaps they just used an older source when making the Kilrathi Saga.

I used them to even the odds quickly when approaching a group of fighters. Dumbfires were particularly useful for this.
