    WC Science 101

Mpanty: Somewhere around here there is a complete breakdown of the physics behind the different WC guns -- I think in Victory Streak. It explains most of them but not, I think, the Fission or Fusion guns. Tell you the truth, those two have confused me -- if they generate a nuclear...

I suggest that scientific advancement isn't necessarily a constant .. it's only a constant if the culture values "progress". This isn't always the case, as progress causes change. Change means that the people on the top of the heap go to the bottom, and thus the people on top tend to...

    WC Science 101

Tachyons may be theoretical in the "real" world -- whatever that is -- but they have a definite physical existence in the WC universe. If you don't believe me, just get in front of my Centurion and have a taste of my 4 "theoretical" cannons :). Someone asked: What are tachyons? They...

    Squadron's Motto question

Can someone provide a translation for the Latin mottoes? I think a cool one might be "Fabricatus Diem!" Respectfully, Brian P.

    WC Novel Petition!

Hmm.. what if you were to send the rough draft to someone on CIC who speaks English as a first language? You write the story, they correct the English grammer and syntax. Of course, you'd have to find a friend willing to help you out. Respectfully, Brian P.

    WC Science 101

How so? I thought it was gravitons and anti-gravitons that behaved strangely near a jump point. Anyway, in Privateer, WC3 and WC4 we use Tachyon cannons next to jump points all the time, and I have noticed no significant changes their behavior near a jump point. Respectfully, Brian P.

    WC Science 101

Well ... no. It's a hypothesis, nothing more. I was just thinking that if you wanted an active sensor in the WC Universe, tachyons might work pretty well ... Respectfully, Brian P.

    Missile launch! Hit the deck!

Just a thought. The reason the B-2 cost so much is "sunk costs". That is, most of the $44 bil we Americans paid for that was paid for research, development, proving the concept, building the production line, and hiring and training the factory workers. The actual materials cost...

    WC Novel Petition!

Why do we need a new novel when we can write all the fan fiction we want? Respectfully, Brian P.

    WC Science 101

Just a thought: Awhile ago someone commented on how excellently WC radar worked. That seems strange, given the vast distances of space. How about this as a hypothesis: WC "Radar" does NOT emit electromagnetic waves as its detection mechanism. Instead, it emits tachyons. The...

    Whoa! Half.com VS. eBay

Nah, there's a 7th CD. It has the scene with Blair and Melek's concubine on it. And I'll sell it to ya as a package deal with this nice iron-frame bridge with a wonderful view of Manhattan ... -- Brian P.

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

Two thoughts: 1. There are many posters here who do *not* believe that the Nephilem have an overwhelming resource advantage vis-a-vis the Terran Confederation. I have already posted at length describing why I think the Nephilem do have such an advantage, and have cited various...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

Too long. Now I have homework to do :(. Respectfully, Brian P. PS. Of COURSE we're gonna win! We're the good guys! :) -- BDP.

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

Item: WCP final mission. Dekker detects fleet on the other size of wormhole. Describes it as "BIG!". Item: WCP:SO fan fiction describes fleet as being huge also. Item: Finley describes initial foray into Confed space as "recon" only. Said recon probe included two Krakens and...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

Who said anything about Zu'kara? We can't beat the aliens in a straight-out attrition battle -- so we won't fight one. I'm not interesting in giving up, only in making the best of a bad situation by: 1. Recon into alien territory, in the hopes of finding out as much about them...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

I dislike the line "one of our fighters can shoot down ten of theirs". That applies to ace pilots like Casey, Maestro, Blair and a very few others. But those are *aces*. The average Confed pilot is far less capable. If you watch the combat sequences in SO between standard Confed...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

    1. Think not? Yeah, we stopped a bunch of stuff, but it was a RIF, *not* a main battle fleet. Casey's good, but he has only so much afterburner fuel and so many decoys. If we had not succeeded in shutting the wormhole it'd been like the Battle of Earth at the losing end of WC3 --...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

Look at the losing tracks of WCP and WCP:SO. In both cases, Casey and co. were just a few minutes too late to close the wormhole. And both cases result in Go Directly To Kraken Blowing Up Confed HQ In Jupiter Orbit. Casey and Co. are heroic, but not heroic enough -- if the bugs are...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

The St. Helens (Sister ship to the TCS Vesuvius in WC4) was trashed in SO episode 5 -- it was jumped by a Leviathan and it's escorts. If I understood what I saw, the Leviathan threw a Capship missile at it and blew it to smithereens. Also: If we *did* ally with the Aligned Peoples it...

A discussion on the true nature of the Nephilim

Sorry for another Dune quote -- but maybe the Nephilem are testing us to see if we're human :). That is, perhaps for them sentience, by itself, is not enough for a race to merit treatment as an equal. Perhaps in addition a race must prove itself militarily capable. If it cannot defend...
