Actually that was a deliberate entry into the atmosphere. They jumped back out again at the last moment. Think it was a move to draw away some of the enemy

There was an old game by Ocean called I-War where you command a Dreadnought Class Corvette. Still got that game knocking around somewhere.

I'd say the wing tips would fold in as well to some extent to give a bit more side clearance on the lifts and hanger bays

They very probably do have folding wings. Keep in mind we only ever see the launch deck, NOT the hanger deck in all the games. Could well be that when the hit the lifts to the hanger deck the ships do have folding wings

IIRC "Aye aye Sir" or "Aye Sir" is the response you give to an order in the Navy, while "Yes Sir" is the response to give to a question. EG - ""Fire on this target" would be replied to with "Aye Aye Sir", while "Did you see which ship fired on us" would get a reply of "Yes Sir" Technically...
