The fleet structure of Wing Commander

Also a big problem is that in space (in reality) weapons have an effective unlimited range limited only by their speed and the range of the target (in other words, how much time the target has to reach). Computers in the future would be able to target and fire with almost 100% hit rate, not the...

    SO Behavior

The only big bang is a big flash of light then the ship sitting there with occasional little explosions. The cap ships never really blow up. I always preferred WC4's huge explosion then slowly twisting burned out hulk that breaks apart.

    Death and Coping Chapter 28

If you haven't read the earlier chapters, go to http://www.ntr.net/~vondoom/deathandcoping.htm Enjoy!! Chapter 28 Security Chief Sattler slowly lowered his pistol and then dropped it to the floor. He took a few steps towards Williams, then stumbled. He tried to recover, but it was...

    SO Behavior

Apparently someone (EA perhaps, its always a convenient villian) decided that fighter collision is too complicated and rather give you the option of turning it on or off they just took it out in WCP. I think that is one of the worst things about the entire game because then you can ride...

Flight physics in current and past space sim games

Dragon: Where in the HECK did you get the idea that I said that realistic physics should be in WC????? Are you even reading the freaking posts??? I have said all along the WC sacrificed realism for fun, which is the correct thing to do. WC ships never approach light speed and so much of space is...

The US and Russia in a 1973 peace treaty that Reagan tried to break and now Bush will stupidly try to now also.

Flight physics in current and past space sim games

Kris: I don't think he is, unfort. Dragon: As to what you are even talking about now makes no sense. A black hole sucks in all nearby matter, but as some matter gets compressed so much as it nears the hole sometimes they let out bursts of Gamma rays which is one of several way we can detect...

Flight physics in current and past space sim games

Ummm Dragon, the F-117 does not change Newtonian Physics in any way, shape, or form. It is unflyable unless the computer helps though because of so many corrections that have to be made that a human could not reliably keep up with them. No altering of Physics are done. I don't understand how you...

Flight physics in current and past space sim games

Actually B5 ships never used constant acceleration. They would burn to accelerate but otherwise they were not used. Some ships did have engine glow, but you can tell engine glow in the series from when they were actually accelerating. And it was Sierra who canceled, not interplay.

    Where Hath Origin Gone?

Have you walked into a Wal-Mart or CompUSA and seen a huge display with just one game? Or seen a game that isn't that great have an unusually large profile? Game Distributors can "buy" shelf space to make their products stand out. It's done all the time and if you look at the success of crappy...

Flight physics in current and past space sim games

First of all Dragon, I never said that WC's flight engine was the wrong way to go. I prefer it to I-War's if you had bothered to read my post. And second of all, we have been up in space and we do know how ships travel in microgravity. Thirdly, Tachyons are therotical particles that are...

    WC Movie was Starlancer Preview

For anybody wanting a truely in depth explination about Reletivity and FTL travel, go to http://www.physics.purdue.edu/~hinson/ftl/ I will warn you though, some of the science here is pretty in depth but fully explains why the light speed limit is not just another theory.

Flight physics in current and past space sim games

In WC (and virtually all space sims) ships fly pretty much as they would in air (granted WC ships do slide some). The point is (and very obvious to anyone who has played I-War or any other game with Newtonian Physics) is that space craft fly NOTHING at all like they do in WC. They are only...

    Where Hath Origin Gone?

ads costs, development costs, salaries for the development team, paying stores for shelf space, there are tons of costs that add up very very quickly.

I did not say that was why. Quite simply, there is not one single shred of evidence for the thoery that you are talking about. Meanwhile there are tons of evidence for light being the absolute speed limit. Just wishing it was otherwise cannot make it true. It's not the same as saying that the...

    Where Hath Origin Gone?

There was an article in PC Gamer recently that explained all the costs. Most games at best make maybe 2-5 dollars per game sold back and those are the best-sellers. The majority of computer games break even or lose money. Also WC3 I thought cost 4 million or so to make, while WC4 cost around 12...

That is not how gravity works though. Gravity is caused by the warping of space by mass. But instead of an expected ripple effect (think of ripples in a pond) taking time to reach us, scientists now believe (based off of observations) that it would happen instantly, which means there are either...

    WC Movie was Starlancer Preview

What you are speaking of is a highly controversial theory that still does not have a shred of proof to it. It is mostly used by creationists to explain how Earth is only 6000 years old. On a side note, though the energies required are pretty much prohibitive, Gravity appears to travel instantly...

    WC Movie was Starlancer Preview

Yes, but I'm talking about actual evidence. I would love it to be otherwise and hopefully somebody will find a way that no one has thought of. But we have sent objects with mass towards the speed of light and what Einstien said would happen did. They gained mass and took more and more energy to...

    WC Movie was Starlancer Preview

No one has shown even the tiniest bit of proof that it would be possible to make any object with mass reach or surpass the speed of light. There are no scientists that I have ever heard of that have said otherwise. And the speed of light is not a constant, it only attains it's fabled speed in a...
