    Privateer idea

I seem to recall reading that by killing enough pirates (ie being 'good') you can get back on Confed's good side and vice versa killing Confed will get you on Pirate's good side.

Why not a new Wing Commander game?

I not so sure. Look at Blizzard's Diablo. I wonder how much it costs to maintain the servers for the game. And now with the game going for about $30 on sale, what kind of profit are they really making? And you can't count what we pay to access the net - the game companies don't make a dime off that.

Find a copy, play it and you'll see why there is so much controversy over it. My biggest gripe with WCP was not the actors (I've seen much much worse on TV) but the ease of the game. In all the previous games there were missions that I struggled with. In WCP I got none of that - even my 8...

When you first played P2 did you feel like you were playing in the WCU as you had come to know it from WC1-4/P1/RF? Be honest. And if you have to point out single lines in dialog and the manuals then you are having to look way too hard! The problem w/ P2 was that there was no transition -...

Nemesis: I will agree that the WCU is in its early stages and that P2 expanded the WCU beyond the borders set by WC3 & 4. Regardless of how little it had that could be linked to the known WCU, P2 IS part of the WCU (whether we feel it belongs there or not). My concern is that P2 made the WCU too...

Is this for an unopened copy? If not, has anyone seen what an opened, but complete, copy goes for?

You guys completely missed the meaning of my post. What I meant was that I would expect after multiple centuries you would find a system to be a bit more diverse than that of P2. Granted, WCIII/IV wasn't all that diverse either but one seemed to follow the other while P2 was a complete departure...

There ARE other accents besides American?:) You're right, though, I forgot that to a Britisher, German, et al American games would sound foreign. WC3/4 had 95% American with the other percentage going to non-American accents while P2 had the reverse.

By "conflict", I meant that one couldn't write a story that directly conflicts with the WCU timeline. But there again, writers have taken all sorts of liberties with licenses (Trek being a good example). I'm sorry, did I post that I had proof!?! No, my posts have only gone so far as to say...

I'm not saying that each colonized planet will continue to use an Earth calendar but that there will probably be two - a common calendar and a local one. Time will tell though. What is the "WC Canon"? Is it written down somewhere? Is the only rule that the story cannot conflict with the WC...

Umm YES! Think about it! Take the number of different calendars today multiplied by some number (100,1000,whatever) in the future to match the number of different colonized planets. I've read a lot of scifi and any WELL THOUGHT story involving the distant future usually has a standard calendar...

Thanks Dragon, I thought that was obvious when I wrote it, but maybe I should have clarified. ;)

Yes you could say that my argument deals with the aesthetics of P2 but I think that Origin's claim that P2 is part of the WCU was almost an afterthought. Look, one can write a story set in a similar time period, in a similar space system, and make a few obscure references to the WCU and call it...

Not true from my perspective. When I bought WC2-IV, Armada, Academy, & Privateer I felt I got games that were part of the WCU though not all along the same storyline. Not the case with P2.

    1. Yes, I would believe that emmigrating humans would preserve the system of time - if we have 200 planets all with different calendar years can you imagine how difficult it would be to refer to an event on a different planet's calendar? Talk about chaos. No, once we become a spacefaring race I...

I think that the issue of nationality in WC or Prophecy is really something you just have to accept. In my opinion, the idea of a space system made up almost entirely of British accent is a bit hard to swallow - but one must accept it. If anyone has read 3001 (sequel to 2010) the author raised...

Wing Commander:.....??? which will be the new name:)

I got the feeling from Prophecy that they left room for Blair to return. And yes, it seemed like Prophecy was meant to transition the old hero (Blair) out and Casey in.

Yep, I think this whole discussion is moot as it stems from trying to fit P2 into the WC universe. And it's pretty obvious that P2 is part of the WC universe by only the thinnest of threads.

Right - but the pilgrims COULD have started a new time system. My point in bringing up the pilgrim reference was to demonstrate that we (humans) would tend to want to preserve our system of time -regardless of where we move to. Would we expect a human that colonizes a planet with an year...
