Well, the KS version is native for Win 95, so that in itself is a big improvement. Also, I the adds liked to point out better joystick and rudder control.

Checked up on the CIC's game guides. You actually have the ability to fly the Excalibur the mission after you meet Flash, and you don't get the option the mission after you beat him or not. However, if you don't challenge him, or if you lose, he won't have the option of being a wingmate.

Ship morale goes down a few notches. (Morale meaning how responsive your wingmates are to your orders.) If you win, wingmates listen to you more often.

That was Origin's reasoning, that most fans didn't like the cockpits and got rid of them, so Origin made the HUD displays and didn't waste memory with modeled cockpits. I, however, prefer the cockpit view, as do many flight sim fans.
