The controls aren't really clunky, as you will soon realize... just different. They are actually pretty streamlined once you get into them. Also, if you want a better strafe movement, press '~' once you enter combat mode.
Cool. Every play the sequel, Starflight 2, or Star Control 2 for that matter?
Also, if you have a powerfull enough rig, you can run the old games with dosbox and add scaling options to smooth out the pixels. That helps a bit.
Not really. My favourite game of all time is Starflight, which was made in 1986 (imagine the graphics for *that* game). For me, gameplay matters a lot more than graphics do.
Heh, thanks for believing in me.
I know that can't be right. I'm thinking of about quite a while back, not recently.
You might be right, but Wing Commander seems to be a lot less well represented in more recent 'best of all time' features. Another thing to remember is that Freespace 2 wasn't...
What difference would it make what kind of website you're running? Elitist attitudes are always bad. I should know, as I have one --but it is something I'm trying to fix.
There aren't many Freespace fans left on these forums because they got into giant flamewar-type arguments and got banned...
I disagree somewhat. The Vasudan Admiral and squadron leader had their fair share of personality, as well as "Terran Command" and the Colossus guy. I do agree that a lot of the brass did feel generic though.
Hey, you're absolutley right, that would go a huge way. I think I'll forward that...
Well, in Freespace you also have various admirals and flight group commanders who would compliment, reward, or condemn you. Of course in TIE Fighter you already know some of these characters from the movies so you already have some character development set in place. Despite that, I still think...
No, Tie Fighter did that because X-Wing did it too.
Meh, Freespace was pretty much a 60/40 mix between X-wing/TIE Fighter and Wing Commander, so of course it had some things that WC didn't (and vice versa). And people can say whatever they want, why should they care what some guy on some...
I think it's more subjective. The main thing people view as a flaw if the absolute lack of any kind of character development. Some people, such as myself, thought that that same lack of character development drew more attention to the bigger picture of the war, and the feeling of insignificance...
Probably not. I don't think there are many Freespace fans left on these forums. I'm just pointing out that the point of view harbored by that German magazine is pretty common in the games industry. You don't need to scoff whenever someone somewhere declares Freespace 2 as the greatest space sim...
Ah, so he's not the same person who posted as unregistered. That changes my previous defense of the guy a bit...
In any case, I would just let it go (sq_paradox). Who really cares if it doesen't have a 'no' option, it's just a stupid internet poll. And while I do agree that people could be more...
Who needs Civilization when you have MOO?
I pretty much despise Civ. Way too much micromanagement, especially in the late game where the game becomes too bogged down to be fun. Also, you're paying $70 for what's essentially a whole bunch of versions of the same game with the same gameplay...
Maybe EA wants is a bit jealous of the attention Bioshock has been getting? I dunno about putting the Godfather team on the project though. Godfather was a pretty mainstream game, while System Shock most definantly was not (and remember what happened when Ion Storm made Deus Ex 2 mainstream). In...
