I think Lightwave should import .3ds without any problem. All 3D program can do it !

I am not sure, but I think you will never see, in a game, more than 5000-7000 faces simultaneously. For instance there is a fighter designed for gaming provided in 3DS Max 3 tutorials and it only have 512 faces... But it was released two years ago. Now with T&L, which handle a lot more faces...

I downloaded the divX by following a link provided at wcnews around mid-april. Maybe you should search in the archives if the links is still available.
