Simulator Gauntlets - How are the enemies selected?

Some Salthis do appear in Simulator Mission 4 (Rescue Support) on Difficulty Level 3. But you propably meant Kilrathi Gauntlet.

Simulator Gauntlets - How are the enemies selected?

That's pretty much a question to the developers, about how the enemy ships are "drawn", as in randomly selected, in Sim Missions 1 and 2, Kilrathi and Confed Gauntlets. Some observations I made: Kilrathi Gauntlet: The first few waves seem to consist only of Sarthas, Drakhris, Jalthis and...

    New Airplane

People kept saying that for years and years already :) But I agree, nowadays it seems to be almost true. On the other hand, some modern games seem to "try too hard" to look realistic and look even more unrealistic that way. (Like the "Brown Is Real" approach... or the contrast cranked up to...

    Zero in Mass Effect 2

I've got a question about this: Is he a voice-actor in Mass Effect 2 or does he actually appear in live-action footage? I only know that game from hearsay, so I don't know whether it includes live-action footage. (Today's games usually seem to have cutscenes in the game engine instead of...

    WCPedia: Summer Projects

Oh, yes I guessed I was confused then. I thought you meant the CF-131 is a prototype for the A-17. I'd still be in favor of seperate articels for the CF-131 and A-17. They're both bombers, and both carry the name Broadsword, but are blatantly different in every other way, even have different...

    Lance? Dragon? Which is it?

That reminds me of another thing I noticed: Sometimes, the Wings are all called by greek letters, sometimes the NATO standard alphabet (what I believe it's called, correct me if I'm wrong) is used. This is made more complicated as some of the letters in the NATO alphabet are identical to greek...

    Star Trek ship request

I'd really like to say to you that "Enterprise" isn't canon, but unfortunately it is. ;) To answer to this point you made, if Enterprise mentions something from TAS, you could say that particular element or event that is mentioned in Enterprise is "promoted to canon", but the rest of TAS...

    Lance? Dragon? Which is it?

Also the targeting computer identifies them as "DRAGON" inflight if I'm not mistaken.

Another Internet Cynical Essay About FMV Games

Apart from all that talk about the game engine etc. I think the real difference is the gameplay. X-Wing/Tie-Fighter are far "harder" simulations (not in terms of difficulty - although that is propably true, too - but in terms of how "realistic", how simulation-like it was) than the Wing...

    Star Trek ship request

No, Star Trek "canon" does not include any games, novels, or stuff like that. Only the series and movies count as canon - and even there are some exceptions, if I'm not mistaken - e.g. whenever TNG contradicts TOS, TNG is "right" as per "Word of God". The Animated Series isn't considered canon...

Guess why there aren't really any fightercraft in that universe, ;)

    Star Trek ship request

Ships in the Star Trek univsere don't fight that way... Yes, in games they often do, for some reason. But watch the shows and movies. Star Trek ships are big (compared to fightercraft), turn slowly, but accelerate very well and have more or less all-around firing capability, and near-perfect...

    WCPedia: Summer Projects

Maybe WCPedia need a "canon guideline" or something... Not just about ships, I think it's rather odd to read how the Tiger's Claw is both in the Venice system, driving the Kilrathi out of the Vega System, and also in Hell's Kitchen, being driven out, at the same time... Maybe it's just me, but I...

Another Internet Cynical Essay About FMV Games

As I already said, FMV got a supporting role, while at the core there was some solid gameplay (3D space flight-sim / real-time strategy). That's what they did right. Yes, in hindsight it's pretty much obvious what went wrong, but not so much why it went wrong. When FMV was new, almost everyone...

Another Internet Cynical Essay About FMV Games

I liked the article. I don't know what some of you are complaining about. FMV Games deserve it, at least most of them do. What Wing Commanders 3 and 4 did right was the FMV served a supporting role, while there was actual gameplay for the player. (But even that is a matter of taste, WC4 may have...

Confed ships - generally better than Kilrathi equivalents? *Screenshots*

Yes there are exceptions, like with the Ralari, but in general I would say it has something to do with Plot Armour. It's what enables you (besides the AI shortcomings) to plow right through dozens of enemies each mission... But maybe you are right, it isn't really a clear case of Plot Armour.

Confed ships - generally better than Kilrathi equivalents? *Screenshots*

To dig up a quote from way back around the beginning of this thread: I think capship weaponry (turrets etc.) is something in which the Kilrathi often seem to have a slight edge before the Confederation (talking about ships of comparable size/function, of course). But maybe that's the only...
