WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

Hi Worf; thanks for the interest! Yes, indeed it does have PCI slots, though this particular card was ISA as you suspected (of which it has a single slot). There was a place to reserve IRQs in the BIOS, but it didn't seem to make any difference (I did try it). Parallel port was already...

WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

Booting to DOS 6.22. No Windows even installed. I would still love to know why it's doing it, but yeah, the problem's fixed for now using a different card and driver (both SB compatible, but the Yamaha driver is much different). For what it's worth, I did find an old (official Origin/EA)...

Wing Commander 2 Crash (Cut scene related?)

I think there are different numbers you can try (ie. loadfix -16 or -10 are a few I've seen).

Wing Commander II Proper Speed Consensus?

Just an update that I keep experimenting between the two and I'm still torn. I feel like the faster speed is just a teeny bit too fast (ship exploding, landing, autopilot), but the gameplay is certainly smoother with lots of ships onscreen.

Wing Commander II Proper Speed Consensus?

Hey all, So finally got my other issues sorted out and am ready to play Wing Commander 2 on DOS using SlowDOS (as it's a Pentium rig). I'm trying to decide between two different levels of delay that both seem acceptable. 31 (more delay) seems to play generally really well. Cutscenes seem...

I think we can confirm this as fixed! =) Thanks for all the suggestions!

WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

Welp, BIOS didn't help much. BUT...progress! Before this sound card, I had an old YAMAHA OPL3 based card that worked fairly well for WC1, but it had a slight joystick drift issue. Decided to give that card a try, and so far, it seems like my issue is fixed, AND no joystick drift in WC2. =)...

WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

Thanks for the assistance. =) Yes, the SB Pro does have jumpers, and they are set correctly. (I could try some different settings though.) As far as the BIOS, I took a look some time ago and disabled some stuff, it's fairly bare-bones and I don't remember about ports. I'll take a look...

WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

(Oh, and the speed question I was going to ask was how to tell if it's too fast or too slow, but autopilot speed and cutscenes look pretty good and next setting up seems just a little too fast, so think I figured that part out.)

WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

Thanks for the interest and help! I just recently got back into DOS myself. Wing Commander 1 ran fine (but no digital speech in that one). Also, the sound card's digital speech testing program works great. No other cards are installed at this time - I do have a few I could try if I can't...

WC2 Native DOS Sound Blaster Pro Problems (And Speed Question)

Hey all, So just finished WC1 (plus SM1 and SM2) and now I'm ready for Wing Commander 2. I've sort of got it working, but I'm having some sound issues and wondering if anyone has any ideas. This is on an actual DOS rig (Pentium being slowed down with SLOWDOS) with a genuine Sound Blaster Pro...

WC1 SM2 Mission 15 (Next To Last Mission) - Maniac was amazing =oP

Hehe...just as an update, he continued his excellence on the last mission. =oP Took down 3 fighters defending the Claw and didn't die. He was a tad aggressive (ie...I'd have to be careful not to be shot), but...I have to say I think he did consistently more effectively than most of my wingmen...

WC1 SM2 Mission 15 (Next To Last Mission) - Maniac was amazing =oP

hehe I replayed the mission twice more just for fun (though I kept the first as my "official" playthrough hehe). First replay, he died almost immediately with the first two Jalthi in the minefield. (He flew straight at them and got shot to hell; this didn't happen the first time [or third] as...

WC1 SM2 Mission 15 (Next To Last Mission) - Maniac was amazing =oP

Just thought this was funny. I've read lots of things dreading the last couple mission in SM2 because Maniac is described as "useless" and known to die immediately... So first mission in Charon (next to last I believe), very first playthrough, and I'm to hit some Nav points and destroy all...

    General tip for fighting?

centaurianmudpig, great tip! I actually never put two and two together with this myself (and assumed it was always some sort of lag artifact from fighting). Good to know =)

    General tip for fighting?

One more I thought of. Sometimes holding the trigger to fire off "burts" works well. Othertimes, it's about timing your shots and conserving energy. Also, learn when switching between weapons instead of always going full guns benefits you. Mass Drivers or Neutrons alone do have their uses...

    General tip for fighting?

Hi regpath, I'm assuming you're still talking about WC1, but this would apply fairly well to the other games as well. As far as #1, it really depends on your mission. I tend to fight whenever possible, unless a mission specifically calls for not engaging (which happens in some of the Secret...

How to survive in a mine field?

I never had a whole lot of trouble at the 250 I used for asteroids (recommended in Claw Marks), but a little faster, as others point out, is probably even better for mines since they do track.
