McCall Industries Still Hard at Work (April 5, 2008)

Do I need to say it? Yes, it seems I do feel the need. That Rapier II is more gorgeous than any of the dreck we DID see in the movies.

    Game 3 Comment Thread

Man, looking at the odds, and how that totally wasn't what I expected -- well, on the one hand, I think of Maniac's story about the two destroyers he "maneuvered into each other." On the other, I think of Chuck Yeager, who said, "I'd rather be lucky than good any day." Edit: Still, knowing...

Just call me Lucky Pip... I expected to fly through the rocks no damage, but I sure didn't anticipate coming up on QP like that! I was hoping to come out in a good position to swing onto QP's tail next turn...

I'm a slow kinda guy, I have to admit.

    Scenario 2: Destroyer Battle

Fellow Confederates, we must stop these... saucy kitties! For Humanity and Vega IX!

    Scenario 2: Destroyer Battle

Well, I guess I'll take team lead. I'll drop PMs to everyone and we'll have a plan coordinated. That is a GORGEOUS map. I love it.

    WCTO has Gamertags now, too!

QP, I would LOVE to finish that dogfight, whenever you'd like. Edit: Also, I am very glad for my ego that the tags don't include the number of times I've been shot down!

    Scenario 2: Destroyer Battle

I'll be happy to give an Epee a spin. Not sure who the Terran team leader is. I've got some of the most experience, but I'd be the first to admit there aren't exactly any awe-inspiring events in the last few games I can point to.

    Vote for next WCTO Scenario

Well, I voted -- Destroyer Battle or Asteroid Ambush, for much the same reasons as Panda -- I like a "realistic" game.

Looking for volunteers for a WCTO test game

Well, I'm looking forward to being an observer this time out, I do believe -- though if there's space for another I'd be more than happy to give it a go.

    Capship takeover

Perhaps they actually had massive remorse. We never see things through THEIR eyes, precisely; maybe the guiding intelligences behind the Nephilim felt great remorse at obliterating intelligent life...?

    The Great Kilrathi-Esque Hunt!

The Aslan, from the Traveller game, of course. Given that there was a Kilrai Sector, and they had frequent problems with the Solomani (Terran) Confederation, and various clans had differing relations... ...yes, you could easily match up Aslan and Kilrathi, without much problem at all...

WC TacOps Game Manual v0.1 released

Thankfully, it's not quite as... complex... as RL was. I hated the diagrams and the strange template damage system from RL.

Killer Bees. What was their fate?

It's worth noting, however, that the current trend in aircraft design is to place the guns in mounts that are fairly integral to the frame: the M61 is in the leading wing edge near the cockpit. Swapping it out would take no small amount of work. A Hornet's lasers are all the way out on the...

Looking for volunteers for a WCTO test game

If memory serves, in one of the unofficial guides -- Mark Minasi's, I think -- he mentions that during that early mission in WC2 where you fly escort for the Broadswords, he happened to be next to one of them when it launched its torpedo, and he paced it flying in; the torpedo was going at...

    Mom-human Pilots?

Interesting -- and unrelated to the topic of the thread -- point. Several of the male pilots we see in the games are married, have wives, even kids (Bossman and Iceman, for instance). I can't recall a female pilot we encounter in the games with a family, excepting Spirit's fiancee. I...

    History of the War

One COULD, if one were of a mind, argue that since Victory Streak and its ilk were written specifically as "point-of-view" pieces, that the Confederation didn't exactly want to admit that they were caught with their pants about their ankles, especially in the later period of the war, when morale...

    torpedo carrying salthi?

Perhaps Salthis had a particularly "loose" design that lent itself easily to being modified... or perhaps the Salthi was so gosh-darn cheap to make that the Kilrathi always had extra ones around for the engineers to tinker with?
