Movie Argument 8 (Was: Discussion of The...)

The WC Movie isn't a parallel universe or divergent anything. Just because it smells and tastes different doesn't mean it can be completely discounted. We take the info and ideas that don't conflict with anything, and eat that up as pure, straight canon. Things that kinda sorta conflict with...

    Babylon 5

Amen. B5 is pretty a remarkable show. The epic-ness was pretty fun and refreshing from other science fiction TV shows of the time. Writing was generally good, occaisionally great, but sometimes wince-inducing cheesy. Space battles started out BAD, but eventually turned out darn cool...

    No medical.

The Victory's twice as long as a modern carrier (and one quarter the mass, and half the aircraft), but what about crew size? I haven't been able to find any info on that quicklike. I would wildly guess it at about four or five hundred, since it's one of Confed's smaller carriers. Modern...

    Soup quality is restaurant quality.

I wouldn't be surprised if something similar was posted to a Wing Commander thread in the Off Topic zone of a food preparation forum. But does that make it right?

    Hmmm, good points.

    No medical.

I'm not saying that there were no medical personnel on the Victory. I'm saying that there might not have been an MD aboard. Trained medical personnel can be very capable, even in emergencies. Doctors may well have been harder to come by in that stage of the war. The Victory wasn't a large...

    No medical.

I don't think that Wing Commander is so much "plot-based" as opposed to "character-based" as it is focused on the theme of flying and shooting bad aliens in space as opposed to the more diverse themes of other science fiction settings. It's a difference in themes. Doctors fit less well into...

    No medical.

Ooh, ooh. Did the bioconvergance chemist in WCIV have a doctorate? Flipped through my novel but couldn't find anything on her right off the bat. Doctor Monkhouse from Privateer! Doctorate in archaelogy, I would imagine. This is fun!

He ain't a military doctor (that we know of....!), but there was also doc on Telamon who Blair encountered, and did all that fun exposition on the Black Lance's geneticly argetable nanovirus bioweapon thingamabob. I have to agree with the fruitcake, though. Doctors are stupid, and have no...

Mamiya, I might be able to take a stab at a texture for the Orion. Email me the model (any format) and texture, and I just might be able to slap something together. I could probably add some blinkenlights too, just tell me where you want them and what color. peteyg att u dott washington...

No way, Hilary Clinton is the hottest senator right now, and probably hotter than anyone in the House.

    To D.C.

I went to DC for my spring break. Here's some places I liked: Air and Space. Number one right here. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (or something). Free concerts and performances in all kinds of styles every night. Supreme Court. Awesome. Probably boring as hell if you...

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

That's what I tend to assume myself. The writers clearly chose to pick higher numbers to display that they were indeed in the future, but it's easily explained away by the cumbersome nature of saying "warp nine piont nine nine nine seven" in tense situations. But that was of course a...

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

Yeah, take it easy there guys. It's probably not worth getting all annoyed and insulted over Voyager, of all things. : )

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

Here's an exhaustive discussion of warp factors, scales, using both canon and backstage info. http://www.calormen.com/Star_Trek/FAQs/warp_velocities-faq.htm LOAF is right when he says that the revamped TNG+ scale originated in supplemental material like the TNG tech manual, but is wrong in...

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

Dude! That's easy. It's like warp 6 is like standard cruising speed. Warp 9.2 or something is the top sustainable speed (as of 3rd season TNG or so). The numbers creep up towards the end of TNG and into DS9, so who knows what they are exactly? But everyone knows that the Enterprise-D goes...

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

I would have to disagree with you on that point. It is easy to criticize the decision to stick with the TNG+ scale, however, what would you have done? Nobody is familiar with the TOS warp scale at all (tell me the cruising or top speed of a Constitution class starship without looking it up)...

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

The scales are only incompatible between TOS and TNG. TNG+ is all compatible. Not entirely sure if the switch was made during or after the motion pictures I-VI. Incidentally, Enterprise appears to use the TNG+ scale. Go figure. : )

Enterprise Season 4 - This Will Be GOOD!

Isn't that the one where Janeway turns into a lizard and has sex with Tom Paris or something? I never actually saw it, but heard some strange things about it.
