Wing Commander IV Win95 version jerky on an old PIII with Win98

Hi, I still have an old PentiumIII, 500 Mhz with Windows 98 for all the old dos games. Since my only joystick is an Sidewinder 3D Pro (gameport) I play the WC games on that computer, because my newer primary PC has no gameport. Well, following problems: I have the CD version of WC IV and...

Wing Commander IV 16-bit SVGA patch for German and French versions

You guys have on this site the 16-bit patch: https://www.wcnews.com/files.shtml#wc4 16 bit SVGA Patch (14k) but it only works with the English version. If you're using it on a German or French WC IV the patching process aborts. I have finally found the same patch for the French...

Which language version of WC do you prefer?

One bad mistake was the German voice actor for Jason Bernard in Wing Commander 4. The German Wing 3 had a different voice actor for Jason Bernard than Wing 4, and he was much better. The actor in Wing 4 sounded weak and totally not like Jason Bernard would sound like in German. It sounded...

    Massive WC3 Final Mission bug?

Yes, Eisen mentions that "Successful insertion will require the ultimate in navigational skills" while the trench is shown. https://www.wcnews.com/holovids/wing3_kilrah.shtml#P1BRFEI He obviously didn't mean that turning on your cloak and flying stressless sky high to the fault line...

    Massive WC3 Final Mission bug?

From Mobygames: This game has an interesting example of how bugs can critically hinder gameflow. As most people know, once you've defeated Hobbes and Thrakhath the game is pretty much over, since the trench run is a piece of cake. This wasn't intended to be so, since the cloaking device is...

    Massive WC3 Final Mission bug?

Completely wrong. If you don't pursue Hobbes, you're still on the winning track. Though, I've always felt that letting go Hobbes is kinda odd: http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=25275 I wonder why the EA guy told you this wrong info.

Interesting things in "Voices of War" and the biggest plot hole in the WC universe

Kilrathi: Do the humans not hunt for food, then? How do you feed the people with these ... with these hydrones? Human: “Uh, I think you mean hydroponic. We raise food, see, both meats and plants. People in the processing stations prepare the food and send it out to all the worlds...“...

Interesting things in "Voices of War" and the biggest plot hole in the WC universe

Some interesting excerpts from Armada's "Voices of War" book: http://download.wcnews.com/files/arma/01-02-10.pdf What's interesting about that book is that it shows the Kilrathi in a more favourable light than all the other WC manuals. Since the Terrans and Kilrathi had experienced...

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

I am not a big fan of Roddenberry, as I stated here already. But you're unfair here - the original Star Trek was fresh and somewhat original for its time, especially the preachy social-issues aspect of it. Enterprise though had nothing new. I couldn't find a single new element there that wasn't...

Did you like the Wing Commander movie?

Clever? Sorry, but I have to disagree. And Wing Commander Academy had the "fresh cadets" theme already. And even with the "young"-route - the actors in Space: Above and Beyond were young too, but they did a vastly better job as combat pilots than Freddie and Lillard. What would be really...

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

Well, you're right. Unfortunately. AD had the best underwater setting I've seen(except the bionts, too cliched), Seaquest is toothless compared to it (sorry SQ fans). An AD movie/show done right could finally break the "based on videogame = bad" stigma.

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

Well, if something like Lexx got 4 or 5 seasons, how is AD too obscure? Or have you meant obscure as "not well known"? Relic Hunter is basically just that.

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

Speaking of things to do underwater.. I am a bit surprised that no movie/tv producer discovered the Archimedean Dynasty setting.

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

Well, I agree with the last part. Beginning from Season 2 the show sucked. EFC Season 2-5 was one of the WORST shows on television. No arguments here. But not Season 1. They "changed direction" in S2, and fired the lead and most of the good writers and changed even the art direction. S1...

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

They have revived V? Didn't know that (probably because I am not in the US) They should have revived Earth: Final Conflict instead. Anyone remember that? The basic premise was just like in V, but the aliens were truly "alien". Until season 2. Then it went all downhill. Never seen a show that...

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

I think the new sub par Star Wars and the late Star Trek TNG movies had a lot to do with that. Speaking of faded fads.. is anyone missing the new agey myst clones? Amber, Lighthouse, Zork: Nemesis, Amerzone, 7th guest, Drowned God, Obsidian, Atlantis.. many, there were a lot of them...

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

By the way, why are ww2 games so insanely popular now? Since 2000, the market is just flooded with ww2 games. Any theories on that?

Why is the Space-Sim genre still dead?

What are the reasons? I once thought it's dead because of two things: 1. The joystick requirement 2. The enormous geek factor But I think these reasons aren't valid anymore. Alternative input device are back now. I mean some games ship now together with skateboards, bongo drums and...
