Quite simply, I'd expect the source code will never get released. Not now that EA has figured out they can make money reselling 20-30 year old games on Playstation Network/Xbox Live arcade, and people will keep forking over the money for them :) It's going to go down the same way as Hollywood...

The new game is supposed to have different combat/flight mechanics and is aimed more at the wider market than just core X fans. It'll be interesting to see if they can actually pull off a more casual/fun experience than the insanely detailed game X was.
